Which Way Works Best For You - Finding Followers Or Writing Articles

I really must say I love these polls! Never would I think that they would come in handy, but I have a few burning questions and so it is nice to be able to ask them in a poll. When coming to a new site like this, do you find that it is better to bring in the followers (and try to get as many as possible) or write your articles and then get the followers? I figured, since the site was closed to new users for a little while, I would try to gather as many new followers as possible. But then I thought, what are they going to read about me? There are only two choices. Why did you pick one or the other? Thanks! Laura Jevtich of Laura-n-Sasha

This one was tough for me because I kind of do both but I went with choice 1. I went through the member list here and followed the names I knew and went through what they have posted here, this was done before I did my first post.

Boy, I can't legitimately chose on over the other. Both are important. To me the choice is write fewer articles and do more interacting ( which presumes contacts) or write more articles. I tend to do the first, mostly because I don't enjoy reading a lot of articles that say nothing but hello, goodnight...or are rewritten from an info site like wiki. Those who write maximum articles often say nothing I want to read.

same here you should have added "both" so i really can't choose :)

LadyDuck wrote on June 13, 2014, 11:18 AM

I was going to write the same as Writing articles is important, no articles no likes and comments, but if you do not have followers nobody will come to read your articles. So both are important.

I have not been here long enough to say, but I think a mix works best for me.

I voted for writing articles, but, actually, it's more like what adjkp25 has said. Although I didn't wait too long to write my first post, the first thing I actually did was to read several things written by others.

Generally speaking I -refer to write and let the followers find me, but since right now I do not have a lot of free time, I am actually slowly working on followers first. It is also a little different here because I am running into more people than usual that I know from other sites.

I didn't choose because I honestly have been doing a bit of both since I started here.

LynLomasi wrote on June 13, 2014, 6:43 PM

I kind of do both. I just go with the flow. If I feel like posting, I post and if if I feel like reading and following, I do that. While I know that both help get more eyeballs to my work, I feel that just doing what comes to me at the moment is more natural and effective. I don't follow people expecting them to read my work and I hope people don't really do that with me. I read what I enjoy and I hope no one else feels forced to read me. I actually wrote something about this on another site. Maybe I'll post it here soon.

Laura-n-Sasha I voted for the second option but I think it is a combination of both!

Ruby3881 wrote on June 13, 2014, 9:26 PM

So many of us agree that both are important, but I think I've done better so far here when I went out to find new followers. Some of my old friends are still quite regular in visiting to read my posts, but I think I'm getting more traffic as I go out to gather in a few that I hadn't been too familiar with in the past.

I don't know what to vote. As I am new to this. I am not active in posting articles nor finding followers. LOL

I think both are important. It is a hard choice. :)

writing articles works better for me, i am an interactive member but I don't need to follow people. I will talk to all the people who makes the articles i found interesting for a day. Being a connection is way too much of a commitment.

allen0187 wrote on June 20, 2014, 3:49 AM

Although, both are equally important, I chose the first one. I want to interact first, to read everyone's thoughts and leave a comment. After an hour or so of interacting i go ahead and post my first article.

Interact. Post. Rinse. Repeat.

I find that even when I get new followers I get the same minimal likes and no comments, so while I still look for cool people to follow and read lots of articles on here, I gave up on trying to generate likes and comments by way of getting more followers. I post links to my articles on social media and on my blog, and at least get a few views that way, while internal traffic here is so slow that follower counts are pretty meaningless.

Scootermac wrote on June 28, 2014, 4:54 AM

Ordinarily, I'd put the writing first, but there are a lot of old friends already here so my priority in these early days is catching up with them.

MarshaMusselman wrote on June 28, 2014, 10:22 AM

I'm not doing either one consciously, but they are being done for me in a sense. People are following me mostly first, before I've written many articles. I hadn't even thought about going through the member list to find those I already knew. People are still finding me though, which is very helpful.

I expect I'll be more active here to a degree especially when the other place isn't working at all, but for the most part I don't have a lot of extra time to invest right now in either place.

I may have to come up with a few Poll questions, though to increase what's available to read. I thought on something while doing this one, but I'd have to remember what it was, lol. (I have to learn how to do the emoticons here-looks like huh)?

PenFlavor wrote on July 10, 2014, 9:49 AM

For anyone to follow me I need to have something to offer in exchange for their time, therefore, writing works best for me.

vserrao1 wrote on July 12, 2014, 2:57 PM

I like writing articles and then finding followers. You need articles for your followers to read.

PriscillaKing wrote on July 12, 2014, 5:53 PM

I'm still trying to figure out--how *do* we post?

BarbRad wrote on August 13, 2014, 11:58 AM

I chose writing articles because someone worth having as a follower will want to sample your writing before following. That being said, after I had some posts up, I began to search the members list for people I already knew from other sites to follow, and then started following people who were commenting on my posts or who started following me.

grandma20121 wrote on January 13, 2015, 12:08 PM

i like writing articles so i guess this works out for me the only thing is thinking about what to write about, it takes me a while because i want it to be worth while to the people reading it, but i guess finding followers could be helpful too so maybe both but i know the question was which choice.
