Poll - Have You Ever Not Bought Something Just Because The Adverts For It Annoyed You?

I like reviewing the ads as I watch them. Some adverts, especially on TV and cinema, are so aggressively in your face and persistent or repeated so much that I find myself boycotting the products offered on sheer principle. There may be nothing wrong with the goods promoted but I feel compelled to show more interest in the goods and services presented with less irritation or aggression by their competitors, even if slightly more expensive. How about you? #advertising #promotion #competitor #cinema #persuasion #FOPP #category-challenge

I still buy the main product, regardless of my thoughts on the ads.

I have always said that no matter what the question or survey is about that you will always find that there is 4-10 percent of the respondents who don't know. No matter what it is you ask, they don't know. Today, I have joined them. I don't know simply because I don't view enough ads to have an opinion. I try never to watch commercial television. But the flash ads annoy me, because they keep crashing my chrome.

In our house the sound goes off when the adds are on. Other places we are victims..

I feel precisely the same way about it. The phrase that annoys me more than any other is "You cannot afford not to buy it". I take great offence at being told what I can and cannot afford to do, so I would absolutely refuse point blank.

Annoying ads can really put people off buying the products being offered. Like seeing popup ads or those kinds of ads that really seem to get in your face, they can be so irritating that it really doesn't make you want to support the company or business offering those products.

I was so sick of the Avatar hype - all the commercials for it as well as all the other ads trying to get on the Avatar wagon - that I refused to see the movie in the theater.

I don't tend to watch the adverts so they don't really affect my buying

&arhutchappell I cannot stand commercials. They all annoy me. Granted, there is always that one that is pretty entertaining, but I never remember what product it's for. I do my research online about different products. And I tend to stick to the ones I have been buying. And yes, I usually pay more for them as they are much better quality.

I voted that I'm not affected by ads but I'm not sure if that can be true, its a constant subliminal drip that seems to sink into us despite our best intentions.

I feel like Scrooge, but a local children's charity has for years been running radio ads with what has got to be the most annoying jingle. I'm not sure how it ends because as soon as I hear the opening chords of it, the radio if powered off. Perhaps I can't say that I have avoided giving to this charity because they want donations of cars. I've had only one car since 2002, so it's not like I've had to agonize over where to donate my extra cars.

Advertisers waste their time with me. I ignore them.

There have been times when I've had a choice between two fairly equivalent products and not bought one because the ads annoyed me.

SoundNFury wrote on January 28, 2015, 10:02 PM

I don't think it affects what Io either way. There are definitely some commercials or campaigns that are annoying, but I think at the end of the day I will still buy something if it's good.

You know, I never really thought about that but should. Your last option made me laugh.

I generally don't buy a lot of name-brand products anyway, but those that I do it's usually because I've used the product in the past and I'm happy with the quality or the taste. If I am annoyed at the ads, I will actively avoid buying that brand and may try to to find their competitor instead.
