Does Having Lots Of Fancy And Expensive Things Make Us Happy

OK my first attempt at a poll style post earlier has fallen flat on it's face, but I thought that might be down to the so I decided to have another try. While I was out on my lunchtime walk I was observing all the and cars dotted around the area and it got me thinking about life. I mean does having a big house, designer clothing or flashy car make use feel , or is it just a look at me style status symbol? For me I would say that these posh things that cost lots of money are indeed nice to have, but they do not bring that much extra unless you are happy with your life as it is. For me happiness comes from the love of my family and within not stuff, it was different in the past but I have now learned that the simple things in life are worth far more then money and stuff. Right over to you guys now, so does having lots of fancy and expensive stuff make us ?

I answered no, true happiness is a state of mind and material things if they can make you happy, can only make you happy for a very short period of time.

I've never lead that lifestyle, so it's hard to say if having those things would make me happier. However, I do know I don't crave them - and I don't feel my life's pointless without them. On the other hand, if I were exposed to these things and saw everybody else having them, except me, I might be a tad miffed.

I answered no. My life now is vastly different than the one I lived when I was younger. I'll own up to it: I was a rich kid, but also pretty unhappy. In my younger years, I also spent more than I saved so I could have a lot of nice things. I'm much happier now, living a modest, middle-class life.

Expensive things that last well are worth having. Mindless bling for the sake of having bling, not so much.

I am in the middle I love having some "posh" things like my up to date new car, after years of driving rust buckets it is nice to have something reliable but on the other side of things some of the best holidays I have had have been back to basics camping emoticon
