Stop Comparing And Start Writing

Remember when you were starting to ?

When you were a relative newbie in one site and then you got better. You then found another site to write for. This one slightly different but then again not so much. Then you build up your connections and soon you are part of a group. Kindred spirits who write for different reasons and write about different topics. Then you find another site and another and then another. In your mind, you are writing for different sites. Sites that may have similar rules but slightly different set of crowds. One is purely a techie crowd writing about reviews and the how to's of the latest gadget. Another might be fanboys or fan girls of the most popular girl band in the world and yet others are stay at home moms and dads sharing tips on how to find time to take care of the kids, the house, and the monthly bills.

Then one site would stop paying. Another would increase the minimum amount and yet another will get so popular that its system crashes under the immense traffic that the site gets. The site and its members being a victim of its own popularity.

When we compare sites, we bring discontent in our writing lives. We tend to choose one over the other. We get tired of the same site. We find another one and compare it to our last one. We applaud how better it is but then we raise a howl when we see how different it is from what we were used to.

My suggestions?

Write for all these sites. Write for all these niches. Write for everyone.

Most importantly, .

Wow well said. I write for fun and it also helps me get stuff off my mind , so I believe I write for myself.Comparisons always lead to dissatisfaction and disappointment.

One should just be oneself and not be vociferous. Each one's experience is different. Let each one decide what is good for them.

But...but...but talking or writing about the other site brings instant views to an article. The attention is just sooooooo addicting! LOL!

Seriously, by now we already smell that it's not just about writing or informing people about another site that's the main reason behind that action. We can and we may; but that is such short-sighted goal.

"Write for all these sites. Write for all these niches. Write for everyone." I AGREE! There are so many things to write about.

allen0187 Nicely worded post. I agree, but I cannot see myself writing for too many sites. Currently I write mainly on two sites, and Persona Paper is one of them. I have a third that is not really a writing site but just added a section for posting. So I sometimes consider that a third writing site. For me there is not enough time in a day to write and write. So I limit my writing to a few sites. That works for me.

Sometimes I wish I could give a post more than one like and, the author a chocolate chip cookie. This post is one of those times.

Very well said and I totally agree. I'm currently writing for a hand ful of sites, but they are spread out. Two on this day and two the next etc.. seems easier that way until I get around to typing everything out on the computer. I have a lot to type out..

This is very well said. Each one will be a little different and will serve a slightly different purpose.

I agree. The sites are all different and not one of them is employment. We are free lancers. If our work is solicited we might get a guaranteed payment but if we just write and submit we might not always be paid. One of the quirks of the new Internet.

You offer some really good points that make good sense.

I have my head on my shoulder and know exactly to compare as it is necessary that I stick to the ones I enjoy writing for.
