Create Your Website or Blog: Register Your Domain

Yesterday, I started my website creation tutorial series. I want to share with you one tutorial per day.

Once you have found your niche you are ready for the next step which is domain registration.

The domain is actually the address of your website. When people type in your domain name they will find your website or blog on the Internet provided you host your website files with a webhosting provider. Webhosting will be the topic of one of my future posts.

You register a domain name with a domain registrar or with a webhosting company by completing the following steps:

  1. Think about a domain name you want to register, for example, your name, your company name, the name of your niche etc.
  2. Check if your name is still available. Most of the domain registrars offer a so called domain checker and tell you immediately whether your chosen domain name is still available or not.
  3. If your domain name is available you can purchase it. You can pay monthly, for one or more years. Most of the domain registrars offer auto renewal if you are afraid of not renewing your domain in good time.

Thank you for reading my post.

janetwrites I know you want to keep this tutorial to the basics, but it would be good if you could provide examples. I know the domain name is very important and selecting a good name entails a few important steps, as well as selecting a good/reputable domain provider.
