so sad - article lost

I had just written a lengthy article about Scottish independence. I was writing the very last sentence and it vanished! I restored cashe which has worked every other time I have had a similar problem and instead of my wonderful political rant, the last article I wrote before that appeared. I am devastated I made such good points as well, I will never be able to write that again!

I might have to start writing in word like I do elsewhere, I hate doing it though because it is just another page to have open (I always have multiple tabs open)

I am actually so upset about the loss of my article, I really thought it was good and hopefully thought provoking for people.

Did you hit submit post and it didn't save it? Did your browser crash?

Maybe I need to make it to where once you type more than 100 characters it will automatically start saving whatever you have every 10 seconds just incase. MaeLou told me she also lost a post this morning from her browser crashing. Nothing I could have done about that but if I would have been saving it locally every 10 seconds she would have had something to restore.

I am sorry about that, I'll work on this over the weekend so hopefully this won't happen again. I do thank you for continuing to be a valuable member.

No I was just typing the last sentence and all of a sudden it went back to the page that asks if you want to post an article or poll, nothing crashed or anything. I am quite good at techie things and the only thing I can come up with is you know how sometimes when you hit backspace it actually goes back a page instead of deleting the last thing you typed? im wondering if that happened here somehow, I think faster than I type so backspace is my friend!

I will continue to be here as long as I continue to enjoy it, I will contribute in whatever way I can and hopefully stay a valuable member.

What a tragic loss! The Scottish independence vote is easily my favorite news story this year, however it turns out. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens, and whether it has ripple effects on Wales and Ireland in future years.

I've had that backspace and back to a page issue before. Not here, but in other places. It's annoying. I'm sorry you lost your post, but at least elitecodex has made it to where it's saving after 100 characters and then every 10 seconds now. Hopefully that works in the future if you need it to.

It happens randomly to me on some sites, but that was the first time it has happened here. The auto save thing is such a good idea, I am so glad you guys listen to us it really does make all the difference.

I will probably rewrite the article, but you know I have the feeling that it wont be as good as the one I have lost.

I certainly think it will have an interesting effect on the UK whatever way the vote goes, you just have to look at the history. In 1997 people in Scotland voted for partial devolution, so we got the Scottish parliament a few years later, wales and northern Ireland followed suit and now have the Welsh assembly and Northern Ireland Assembly respectively.
