Persona-Paper Links - Worth the Trouble or Not

Being allowed to link back to posts I have written, over the years, is one of the reasons I am happy to be a member of the Persona Paper community. I did want to find out if the type of links generated would be worth the time and trouble. upon checking I found out that links we place here are marked by the coding as NoFollow.

What does that mean?

NoFollow links don't let search engine spiders follow the link. If you link back to one of your posts, or articles, in a Persona Paper post te link juice, or cred does not pass on. Translated that means that only humans can follow the links.

Here is what a NoFollow link looks like behind the veil of your Persona Paper post

rel="nofollow"> Chinese Crested Dog </a>

So how do I use that information?

Previously that might have made spending the time to make these links to old posts and articles on other websites "not worth the trouble" but now. Ah ha, a light in the darkness.

Google now says they will count a nofollow link as an outgoing link to help distribute page rank to non spam destinations, but there is a caveat. To get the most of the link that you place it should be as close to the top of the page as possible. That means a little thinking and planning to place the link in a natural look and feeling way. Thanks AdrienneJenkins for the info I needed to get started thinking and working on this post.

Thank you for letting us know. I remember I used the "no follow" in Squidoo to avoid problems.

I still have problems understanding why some think no follow is a problem and others think it is not.

This is interesting to me for many reasons but doesn't mean I won't stop back-linking within PP. I don't typically link outside the site I'm currently writing for so I don't think this applies to my back-linking theory - since I need humans clicking through, lol. Or like it when they do, anyway. But the nofollow thing does intrigue me. Going to Adrienne's page now to see if she's written anything about this and I missed it. Thanks for the info, anyway :) Always helpful, you are ;)

I'm not sure that I follow, or quite understand your explanation here, Javaman . Does that mean you need to put the code with any link that you use, and that you don't want the spiders or bots following the link itself? Also it looks like your example doesn't provide an actual link, so I'm in the dark here.

I'm new to PersonaPaper and currently don't have articles that have links. Do you mean that if we interlink our Persona Paper articles, the URL will be nofollow even if it's within the Persona-Paper site? If we include links to articles here that lead to other sites, those links will be nofollow? Is that right? But, even if that's the case, are we still allowed to include links in our articles here, aside from the links crediting the source of any image that we might decide to use? Or are we not allowed to do this? I read that we can't include referral links here. But what about non-referral links or just links to articles that are related to the article we posted here? Are those allowed?
