My Response To Persona Paper's Upcoming CHANGES!
MaeLou posted recently about new changes she and Will ( elitecodex ) would like to implement to Persona Paper. As is their AWEsome M.O., she is asking for our help in the way of feedback about these proposed changes.
I sat down to craft a comment that turned into a post. ACCK. Well, I had more than a comment’s worth of things to say. And I am truly grateful that we (the contributors) are free to give our feedback and that we are also being listened to.
To read MaeLou ‘s post, please visit “We’re Making Changes” . She wants our feedback, folks. Share away. Then come on back and if you can muddle through my thoughts in response, have a read below:
My Thoughts for Persona Paper Changes -
Our Look: I don’t see the “imitation” and do enjoy all the doo-hickeys we have here at Persona Paper. Of course we want to set ourselves apart and I’m sure whatever vision you have, we’ll adapt and grow with it. The fact that you ask for our feedback and genuinely take it into consideration is HUGE here. Thank you also for going slow - we are only human, lol.
The Groups: This is quite interesting to me and exciting too. I am a personal poster for sure, who also enjoys weaving a bit of lesson (I hope) into each post. Still, I’m a blogger more than an article writer; always have been. Occasionally I like throwing up a strictly informative post, so the opportunity to do both (wear more than one hat) would be key here.
I’m glad you will not be creating a forum, as I believe we can have a forum type atmosphere amongst our posts, as you suggest further down in your post, where we are earning (or not - see below as I change my mind about that) for interacting AND it’s natural.
Likes:
To that end, in my humble opinion, I believe views should be counted (uniquely), and likes, but not comments AT ALL. This will eliminate completely the spam comments but still encourage folks to visit posts.
I don’t see a lot of like for like going on here, at least not yet. And I do think lots of folks appreciate the freedom to like without feeling obligated to comment. One of the most frustrating things at (some other place) was feeling the pressure to comment - it WAS insanely guilt inducing if you bought into it. And many did/do (including myself at times).
I want the freedom to like a post if I like it.
Comment if I want to.
Be part of the discussion if I want to.
Without guilt. Without pressure.
How? Pay us for the (unique) views. Pay us for likes. Period. Leave the interacting up to us. No guilt. No obligation. No spam comments either.
This will also then cause your money to grow and you will be able to raise the exchange rate eventually.
Heck, cap the likes if necessary - make it ridiculous or make it small or whatever. I’m just noodling here.
If you do that - cap the likes OR rid them all together - and JUST PAY for views. What will happen eventually is that the more folks just comment for the sheer joy and/or discussion and the MORE folks who comment, the bigger the discussion, the more exposure...
OMG - my head just almost exploded. Well, a light went on, anyway. I’m going to tuck that nugget away for now, though. But I like where you are headed. Oh, yes.
Bottom line RE: paying us for whatever(?) You will most likely have to make a swift decision on that to gain more notice and get more people in. I realize you are up against some obstacles - MONEY being the main one.
So eliminate immediately those things in which folks seem to take advantage. Just remove the possibility for reciprocation and there will be none.
Pay for views. Period.
Folks will like because they want to, comment because they want to, share because they are REALLY enjoying the discussion, etc.
ALSO - this will cause folks to consider what they write, as well.
I’ve purposely left out a word throughout the last several sentences (since the head blowing up thing) but I’ll say it now: VIRAL.
Viral things GO VIRAL naturally. They aren’t forced. As writers we ALL want our stuff to go viral, get liked, commented upon, whatever. Viral absolutely cannot CANNOT be reciprocal.
Viral is natural - guilt free sharing and liking and commenting of things simply because we LIKE them. FREELY.
Views, on the other hand. Well, we should be paid something solid for those. Rightly so; then we’ll keep sharing our lives and/or informative posts.
The site will grow and we will grow and...
Yikes. I’ve written a book here. Hopefully I’ve not made it too confusing! Moving on...
The Blogging Section seems a bit confusing to me right now but that is completely me, not you. I’m sure once you implement things, run them, get us used to them, and tweak them, I’ll figure things out.
As long as we can all access the whole site and interact over the whole site, I see no real issue there.
Private Messaging is cool on the one hand for sure. On the other, keeping folks on the main pages is more important. But a way to interact privately within Persona Paper is definitely a good idea, especially considering the direction you are proposing - more social media-ish :)
OMGoodness, this IS exciting. Thank you MaeLou , for the opportunity to respond to your post. I hope you don’t mind that I ended up making a post of my own. Once I got to noodling I couldn’t stop and figured what the heck...might help further the discussion.
Sincerely hoping not to confuse anyone in any way.
Cheers!

Hi SandraLynn! Very good points laid out here, especially with our own work going viral naturally by virtue of page views. It will also be a good deterrent!

Thank you PenFlavor - I think so too. Of course, having only sat on this side, I may be missing the bigger picture. But it's something to think about :)

Some things to think about here. We can definitely open up the discussion to raise the coins or raise the exchange rate for each unique view and take away the earnings for likes and comments. A discussion about that is needed for sure!
As far as the groups go, you are allowed to be in more than just one group, and I think that a lot of people could fall into this. I could see myself doing some informational, some reviews and some personal. Not really a creative writer, so I definitely would not be posting there. LOL
Trying to explain my "blogger" section that I'd like to incorporate and change is definitely harder to put into words. If you've ever seen Bloglovin though, think similar to that. I had a really hard time explaining my thoughts and views to my own husband haha!
You are right about private messaging. I want to keep people on the main pages but I definitely want people to become "friends" without feeling like they should add them to their own personal facebook, kwim?
Hopefully I covered a lot of that. Most of you post was just saying "PAY FOR VIEWS" Haha!

LMBO - so you get me then ;)
And yes, you covered everything else in your reply, too! I don't know Bloglovin' but I'll trust what you roll out and ask questions when I need to, as you already know ;)
I also get the jumbles, explaining thing...sometimes G will just nod and say, there there :) You're excited - we'll get there
No matter what, I have no doubt you guys will allow us input as we go, MaeLou YAY! :)

I wrote a glorious commentary inspired by you only to have it get stuck because I had a kabillion windows open. That bummed me out 'cause it was brilliant :D Then I had to get some stuff done. So I'm letting myself play right now.
