Relaxing Week--Almost

Hey all, I have some free time, so I thought I would pop in. I wasn't planning to take any time off for the Thanksgiving holiday, but my boss said I had to take my unused sick days before the end of the year, or I would lose them! Well, I promptly took Monday through Wednesday off this past week, as we had Thursday off already for Thanksgiving. That left Friday, but I didn't mind coming in one day and then having a weekend off!
I enjoyed having off from last Friday night through this past Thursday night. I'd planned to get caught up on a lot of things and also venturing out to shop when the stores wouldn't be as busy, as well as visiting places that would normally be closed by the time I get out of work, like the bank and the post office. Well, I didn't get quite as much done as hoped, as a broken furnace made it too cold to work upstairs in my office/studio and tied me down all day waiting on the repairman, so I couldn't go run errands outside the home, either. Blast!
Fortunately, we didn't have any big plans for Thanksgiving, so my husband and I just hung out at home (we'd gone out to dinner on Wednesday, so the festive part was also taken care of. However, since we were both off, we ended up watching a lot of TV shows. If I hadn't had my knitting to work on, that would have been wildly unproductive.
Friday rolled around and my husband got to sleep in, but I got up and went to work. I was actually quite happy to do so, as no one would be there and I could get a lot of work done, or so I thought. I brought catalogs I'd been wanting to look through and Christmas cards to address and my journal, in which to make a nice long entry.
As anticipated, there were literally only three other people working in our extremely large building (it usually houses about 150 employees), and I only saw two of them, for about a minute each. I delightedly dug in to my catalogs, but I made it only about half of the way through when the guys showed up to do our holiday display (pictured above). It was perfect timing for them , because there were so few people in the building and they could work without getting in anyone's way. Wasn't so great for me , though, because they took ALL DAY to install the display, and they talked to me THE WHOLE TIME!!!!
Man, I can't get anything done at home OR at work. Well, I got this article done, at least. Happy Holidays, everyone!

Isn't that always the way! Display looks good. Unused sick days? But if they are sick days, should they not be only for when you are sick?

Bummer - a quite day is always welcome and it allows us to catch up on things but when it doesn't turn out quite as we expected it then it can be really frustrating.

Theoretically, yes, but it's a "use it or lose it" benefit, and since I have an admirable immune system, I've only ever called out sick once in my whole year+, and that was for vertigo (probably due to allergies). Officially, they call it "PTO" (paid time off), and you can use it for anything, including just taking a "personal day", so that's pretty much what I'm doing. It turns out everybody is going to take today off anyway, because we got a foot of snow here yesterday!

Definitely! I was hoping for a day alone today, as my husband did not have off, but we got a foot of snow here and his work got cancelled, so now we're snowed in together, lol
