"Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do." - Jesus of Nazareth said it at the time of his crucifixion.

It is one thing we all do, HOLD GRUDGES against each other for not measuring up to our expectations or by having failed in some way.

Even if you do not read the 'Word of the living God' and even if you do not have any grudges or issues with someone in your life experience, FORGIVENESS is a gift that anyone can give to another person that has trespassed against you.

But many DO NOT FORGET, so without forgiveness there is no forgetting! It's so simple. If you want that one burden that hold's weight on you day after day, that is a grudge or resentment you hold against another from their having offended or somehow hurt you or someone close to you, and you do not find it in your humble heart to forgive them then you WILL NEVER FORGET.

Jesus was sent here to forgive but even He was not able to force this on anyone. It has and always will be a right for anyone, a personal choice of free will to do so, but if Jesus said, 'GO AND SIN NO MORE' or 'LOVE YOUR ENEMIES' - although not a command or an act of coercion, it is WHAT HE WOULD DO AND STILL DOES DO.

If you understand the meaning of forgiveness, then you will have no difficulty in forgiving others as God has forgiven you. But also, it is sinful to others to hold grudges. Some good examples of forgiveness are written in the Bible and even have occurred in daily life and have been reported in news articles and you might even have a personal memory of a time in your own life, when someone you hurt, either intentionally or unintended, who actually forgave you. This is one of the most profound moments and good memories I have had in my life time. If you go through life, with nothing more to add in the way of inspiring others, you can do one kind act and that kindness is the most significant one you will ever know, besides love, and that is the ACT OF FORGIVENESS. - It is a gift that God has already given to you and to me and to all things on this earth, living and the dead and yet to be born. It is the gift of DIVINE forgiveness that comes from the heart and mind and soul of each of us, if only we open up to it and realize just how easy this can be.

But if you are forgiven for whatever reason and for whatever purpose, just don't go out and repeat that which you have been forgiven for because repeating an act that was first forgiven is the same as holding a grudge with someone you have said I forgive you today but tomorrow I will harbor hate and disgust for you.

Forgiving someone for a hurt they have caused you is very freeing, whether you do so for religious reasons or not. It relieves stress and allows you to get on with your life without poisoning it with the vitriol of constant remembrance of hurts or slights suffered.
