More Haste Less Speed

Familiarity Breeds Contempt

I was creating a new website today. I had bought the domain name and wanted to create the site on some hosting I already had, that had room for extra domains (add-on domains). I have done this a number of times, so am used to the procedure. I have also recently created a template for a website that I can use to make the process faster, because it can take up to 30 minutes to get a website looking the way you want, even before you add blog posts to it.

So I was not paying attention because (a) I have done this lots of times and (b) I was thinking what I would add into the new website. This is because, although I have had this idea in my head for some time, it was an incident last night that prompted me to get this site started.

Not Paying Attention

That's when the trouble starts - when you know how to do something very well and you're in a hurry because you really should be doing something else, like laundry or housework! I created the new website but mistakenly overwrote my original web site on something else, instead of making a brand new one. That means my good website, nearly a year old has disappeared and been replaced by a new oe with no content!

As soon as I realised, I contacted the hosting service and they have already replied that they will try and restore it from their backups. Whew!

Whoa! Isn't it great when someone you do business with is capable of actually coming to your assistance? Great. Meg, I don't know how you will feel if I suggest this, but I would like to recommend you build a site with strict editing. No, not necessarily one that benefits me. Just a site that is really, really tight on what it puts out...

I have lots of sites but I am the only one who posts on them! They all have very strict editing, except for any mistakes! LOL. I would be unable to build a site like this one, as this one was built by a coder and has a proper database. I would love to be able to program something like this but there are also so many other things I would like to do and only so many hours in the day!

I get assistance from time-to-time by Victoria Nix, the owner of DecodedScience. At present we don't get paid for our work, so she very thoughtfully provided me this perq.

I really hope you get it back. I feel your pain MegL.

Thankfully, they were able to restore it. I am really grateful. The host is and they were fast and helpful.

That is very good to hear. I was truly worried about it. Now I can go edit my last post as it requires my immediate attention. Have a good day MegL.
