Will We Survive the Next 100 Years?

Already the plastic chairs on his front porch had been blown off onto the driveway, after hitting the hood of the car. It had not started to rain yet, but at 5:30 in the morning, it looked like a heavy storm from the northwest was going to hit any second.

Gathering the lawn chairs and stacking them in the backyard, behind the house, Mike made a dash back into his home. The coffee was ready and his computer was logged in. His writing site was open to recent activity. He moved the cursor on the screen to the NOAA tab, and clicked on it.

He entered in the zip code of his home and was able to quickly bring up the radar map, live stream, of an area that covered the entire state of Texas. A cloud wall was already over Ft. Worth, just 30 miles west. The National Weather Center posted a Severe Storm alert with possible wind speeds of up to 60 mph, hail the size of golf balls and the possibility of tornadoes.

The date was July 3rd, 2020. Just a month earlier, Hurricane Glen had hit Houston with a category 4 that inundated the areas with heavy rainfall and flooding up as far north as Waco, falling short of the Dallas-Ft.Worth metro-plex by just under a hundred miles. But even Dallas was hit by heavy downpours. Low areas flooded as far east as Lancaster.

While drinking his second cup of home brewed drip coffee from his 4 year old Mr. Coffee machine, he looked on his computer for the YouTube tab. Hitting it, there were at least 20 recommended videos about unusual activities. His first video of the morning was 2020 is strange. For the month of July, 2020. It showcased all activities across the planet of severe magnitude. He had been watching and following it since the year 2016, before the war between Israel and Palestine broke out in the autumn of 2018, over sanctions brought forth by the then president of the USA, Virtual T, an automated figure using Artificial Intelligence to rule the country using the latest in artificial intelligence the white hats could create on such short notice.

Virtual T was necessary as there would be no probability of any attempts by rivals to do any physical harm to a cyber president.

The question that was entered into the video as a large text message during the half way point of the video asked the question: "WILL WE SURVIVE THE NEXT 100 YEARS"?

Mike was getting a bit of a headache. He had to take an Ativan, to quell the mental in his head.

An extra few aspirin and an extra strength Tylenol and 2 Tums antiacid chews. Hardly having any appetite so early in the morning, he continued looking at his long list of suggested videos. Meanwhile, in another area of the city, Tony Franks was headed south from Dallas, with a small camera crew in a Storm Chaser Van to try and catch a glimpse of the storm headed up from the Gulf of Mexico. Meantime, Jake Swanson said, "Tony, I have the coordinates of a heavy cell formation about a mile from here. Should we go take a look"? Tony replied, "Yes, we might as well check that out, but be ready to move fast on it and don't take any off-roads."

So as they drove into a developing storm to try to catch a tornado, people in their homes began to move to the safe areas of their homes as local sirens sounded and radio and t.v. and weather apps declared the immediate area a state of emergency by the NOAA's Emergency Broadcast Network.

Yes, it was just another day in the life of a person living in the year 2020 in America. But outside this scenario, do you sometimes look up in the sky and wonder, what if? And Will we survive the next 100 years? How can we gain more insight into what we as humans on planet earth, can expect over the next 100 years from global climate changes? Even the next 10 to 50 years?

I don't have to tell you that there will be many changes both in the earth's climate and access to food, water and medicine but there will be many more changes that mostly I do not care for.

I do not want to WiFi my brain to the internet with an overlay implanted in my head. I don't want to go places in a flying Uber craft. But there are so many YouTube links to look at I will have to get back with you later after I have more time. My next few hours will be involved in looking at more future scenarios about the earth and humanity over time. In spite of all the changes awaiting us, live for today, Make love your main goal for today and try to remain positive. Eat more chocolate.
