Today's Hollywood Drama at the Time of the School Bus!
Every school day, my wife gets our 3 grandchildren ready for the school bus. It arrives at about 7:15 to 7:20 promptly!
The kids just love school so much they can't wait to rise in the morning. Achieving that, they quickly dress, eat, and are anxious to meet the bus on time so they can arrive at their home-away-from-home.
You believe that? I've got this bridge in Brooklyn at an unbelievably low price...
So there is this last minute crazy effort my wife makes to get the kids together. Hey, I'm telling you the truth here. It's C-R-A-Z-Y. The window is from about 7:05 until 7:11. It's ridiculous. But new heights were achieved this morning! Listen...
"Vince, go outside and stop that cat. He's got a rabbit THIS BIG (she indicates the size of the fish that got away)."
"I'll get dressed."
"Oh NO! He's in the house and he's ALIVE! He's running around in the KITCHEN! VINCE, where ARE you!"
"I'm getting dressed..."
"Oh you're always finding some excuse to just sit there. Come and GET HIM!"
Wife: "He's got the rabbit again. I think he's dying!"
Granddaughter: "[BOO-HOO] He's DEAD!"
Then after much Hollywood Drama over the welfare of the rabbit, my wife realizes she's probably going to miss the bus. They get in the car to go to the bus.
Thoroughly character-assassinated, I head outside with my older son, who by now is awake.
Son: "The rabbit's over there. I managed to get Buffy away from him."
Me: "OK, he's dead."
Son: "I don't know about that..."
I notice, amazingly, lying absolutely still, thoroughly mashed-looking, that his abdomen is rising and falling, he's BREATHING, at what appears to be a nearly normal rate. The cat is trying to come back. Thoroughly irritated by now, I turn the hose on him. He runs! We look again. The cat tries to return. I shoot the hose at him again. I turn around and... the rabbit is GONE!
The bus was late. The kids got on. Another get-ready-for-school session is over THANK YOU!
