How many people can still remember Buster Brown shoes?

Standing in a grocery checkout line yesterday,

while my wife was paying for her grocery items, the man behind us in line said something about Buster Brown and I told him I had no clue as to what he was talking about. He looked at me and said, "You are probably not old enough to remember this, but ... " He admitted to being 80 years old and he told me about Buster Brown shoes, back in the day, and I told him I would do some looking online about it. Well, he also told me he knew the man who was the voice of the original Big Tex at the State Fair of Texas and that he was a personal friend of the guy, who I think was a radio DJ at one time or the other. I get my facts mixed up at times, but if I am correct, this is true. The Big Tex voice was a man who eventually retired from it and another man took over the job of greeting the many hundreds of thousands who walked into the Midway of the State Fair in the Fall of each year, sometime in late September or early October.

If you are interested I provided some history on both The Voice of Big Tex back in the 60s and a bit

more history about Buster Brown Shoes

Don't know about Big Tex. But Buster Brown and Tige, I do remember. And those shoes were advertised on the TV show Andy's Gang, starring Andy Devine with Froggy. These days, I'd turn my back on that show, since it features a "gremlin".

It's always interesting to hear people's memories like this. The Buster Brown article was fascinating. I haven't looked at the other, yet.
EDIT: I have now looked at the Big Tex article. Also fascinating. I see his weight is supposed to make him able to withstand hurricane level winds!

I think of a gremlin as a "blip", something wrong that is personalizedas causing problems. Is that what you mean by gremlin?

"An imaginary mischievous sprite..."

Yes, an anthropomorphized problem.

But not fires. Unfortunately, and the new Big Tex just isn't the same. Many of us are truly disappointed by the change in his basic appearance. But still he is the main attraction of the Texas State Fair and I look forward to going this Fall.

A lot of people have said this. It appears I never knew that much about Buster Brown but think it must have been a big hit back in the day.
