Spring Forward--The Time Change Is Coming!

The start of Daylight Savings Time (DST) in the United States will occur early on the morning of Sunday March 11, 2018 (that's "Saturday night" for most of us), when at the stroke of 2 am, it will suddenly and mysteriously become 3 am! Where did the missing hour go? Oh, it's just hanging around, waiting until fall to show back up. Until then, we'll just have to kiss it goodbye. At least as a reward, we get an "extra" hour of daylight in the evenings. Of course, we know it's not really extra--we have to pay for it with darker mornings--but things will sort themselves out, especially on the first day of summer, with the longest day of all.

As for how to deal with lost hour of sleep, I wrote a how-to article here:

Enjoy that evening sunshine!

I've wondered how life is in those parts of Arizona (and I believe one or two other areas?) that refuse to adopt the whole blankety-blank business...

In the UK the clocks go forward on March 25th - at 2am in the morning just like you!

At the moment, the UK is looking anything but spring like. The "Beast From The East" as the weather people termed it, has blanketed much of the UK with snow and the biting easterly winds have provided wind chill factors rarely seen in these temperate climes!

I wonder about that, too--I guess they just always have to be aware of the difference, but I'm sure they are used to it. I wish DST was the regular time--I prefer having it be lighter later.

We used to turn the clocks right around April Fool's Day, but we have been scooching it up a bit because everybody likes the lighter evenings.

Yes, we got a huge "Nor'Easter" that dumped snow all over and caused major flooding in more southerly parts. Fortunately the only thing that happened here was a whole lot of wind--the power went out a few times, but only temporarily. We really got off easy!

I wonder if it was one time constantly if businesses and other institutions wouldn't change their hours; if the dichotomy isn't essential to maintaining the difference?

I, for one, and so looking forward to springtime! It's a feeling of newness. Much better than the new year, for me.

I'm working on a draft here, and will be posting this evening. Just to share a little news about my leaving another site and what some of my plans are. I am glad to see that you are still active here.
