All That Glitters...

I'm near three score and ten and I've been entertained by home-based media for quite a number of days now. Frankly, not much of what is produced now is worth my time. But I still enjoy entertainment.

So along come sites that put TV and other Videos online, some even for download! Some of these shows are new to me, which is a pleasant thing. Others are familiar. When it comes to downloading old favorites, I think back to when I was really, really young and enjoyed a few favorite programs.

I'm glad to say some of those programs are still available. However, some of those programs, when I watch them, don't bring back the fond old memories. Rather, they raise the question...

Why did I ever like that old stinker? One example, I am sad to say, is Sergeant Preston of the Yukon. He would bring criminals to justice with the aid of his dog, Yukon King. Catch is, Preston, his dog, and the bad guy were sometimes the entire cast. Scenic views, then? Well, lots of snow, anyway.

Don't you just hate it when the balloon of a fond old memory is popped?

Memories are funny, aren't they? As a child when I read books, I wasn't interested in all the descriptions, I skipped those to get to the ACTION. As an adult, I enjoy the more complex parts (though I dislike "literary" books). Maybe it's the same with children's programs. What we liked as children, the simplicity and direct action, we find too simplistic as adults. I used to love watching "The littlest hobo" and it's available on Youtube but I would not think of putting it on now to watch for myself (except maybe the theme tune). I see bits of it, if the children are watching.

Yes, that's the littlest hobo.

Just watched episode 1. It's not bad at all. Very pleasant. It's not overly realistic, to be sure, but nothing's less real than too much reality.

It's pleasant entertainment and children enjoy it too. I can still sing the theme song, though you might not enjoy hearing it!
