Persona Paper Transfer
So its with a heavy heart that I am announcing the final closing out of Persona Paper. But don't fret, there is light at the end of the tunnel. First, a little explanation from my end.
I had hopes of one day eventually migrating Persona Paper into something else. Something of a free / premium configuration so at least the site brought in a little money, even if barely enough to cover the expenses. The expenses are not that high, so I was paying for this out of pocket since the ad networks stopped. Even charging a dollar or two a month with just a few premium features, would only need a handful of users to start to get ahead. But the pay-for-your-content model is slowly dying as I saw a while ago. The ad money just isn't there in the mass views. It is all targeted advertisement now, which needs a much larger and sophisticated infrastructure. So a payment model was required. However, I didn't consider my biggest enemy.
Time is my biggest enemy right now. I have so many project I want to work on, Persona Paper being one of them. But between my work is picking up and the extra curricular activities from the kids, I already need a 36 hour day just to keep up. So without the time and energy to be able to put into Persona Paper, I made the decision to go ahead and start the close down process. But I always promised I would never just disappear, so I had planned to phase it out. Cease accepting posts, allow backups to be downloaded, then make all the articles go away with a splash page, then the final takedown. But while talking to MegL she suggested that someone else take over the duties of the site.
The Promised Light
So I promised light at the end of the tunnel. With a short conversation between a few regular posters of the site, it was agreed that we could transfer the site (code, cost, etc) to someone else who was willing to take it on. Admittedly the code isn't the best, but it works and has for years so works well enough. Running it as it is now, should only require the minimal investment of time. Although some technical expertise will be required to handle it.
So MegL stepped in and offered to take up the responsibility. I agreed. So I will be transferring everything to her control over the next few weeks. I will assist in any way I can for a smooth transition. I will post again once everything has successfully been moved, so keep everyone informed. At that point, the future of the site will be in her hands.
Don't worry, no pressure :)
