By in Persona Paper

NO! I Am Sorry.

I was rather surprised to see a poll from CoralLevang asking us how much we were prepared to pay for continuing as part of the Persona Paper community.

bestwriter had already asked us whether we were willing to write for free for continuing here. While I found bestwriter's idea reasonable , paying the site owners for letting us write here is not a good one.

Just before Elite Visitors closed down, some friends of the owners asked the members to write for free. Some left but some stayed. But even then I am not aware of anybody asking the members to pay the site owners.

I know Coral says this is only a suggestion. What I was surprised to see was the response by elitecodex. While Coral levang may suggest the members pay the site owners ( who it seems are her friends ) to pay for continuing here, it seems he is willing to receive donations from us.He did not suggest it because he thought it would alienate us.

Of course there are people who are prepared to pay to continue writing here. I am not one of them. Some may pay because it is Coral Levang who is saying this. If the suggestion had come from some body else, the reaction would have been different.Personally,I think once it has been decided to shut down, you should do that. We have expected this and accepted this. Of course finding another buyer to run this site is an option.

If the idea is to be a part of a group where there are only 10 or 15 close friends, you can form a group in Face book with only members from the favorite countries.

Will Persona Paper accept new members from Philippines and India if they are willing to pay more?

All are not that rich so that we could pay the $25 per year that elitecodex suggests to continue writing here.At least I am not going to pay and continue here.No,Thanks.

I have been apart of chat sites where we were able to pay dues for having other opportunities over the standard free. The sites were wonderful. That was the suggestion that I made.. and if you saw what will responded, it suggested the standard no pay, but there was also the other options.

It is clear that there is a disagreement here, which I have no problem with. It does feel a little accusatory however that you would suggest that I have some sort of strange familiarity with the site owners. I simply do my best to maintain relationship with people, and do my best not to isolate people as I found others do. I also find that it is a little offensive that it would be suggested that people follow me around like sheep. I think every one of the people around here has an opportunity to share their own ideas and opinions and are quite capable of disagreeing with me and making their own choices.

First of all,I thank you for responding.I was rather disappointed ,how things were going.I am sorry for any wrong assumptions I may have made.I wish you well, wherever you are.Thank you for all the encouragement ,motivation and support you have given me.

You are a woman of honor. I have always found you willing to see or try to see both sides of any situation and that is something that many people do not do. Even when there are disagreements, as there always will be when we deal with human beings, you have always been kind and open to discussion. I have never found any duplicity with you and that speaks highly of who you are. I look forward to continuing to get to know you better aside from the website that are writing sites or social networking sites.

Thankyou CoralLevang .

As I have already commented elsewhere I leave it totally to the owners to do what deems best for them.

I think the option to pay should be voluntary. At the very least, 5.00 a year would insure a more stable site. Already I have noticed, the SEO of this site is terrific. The number of articles that make it to Google Search at the top line is significant. To lose this seat in the SEO of Google would be a greater loss than that of the loss in the big picture.

I was once part of an ancient history site that offered different levels of membership based on pay or non-pay. I think I paid about $40 per year. I remember they offered a lifetime membership for $250. This was in the late 90s. It was a great place. It's where I got the screen name I still use. I'm still in touch with some members via Facebook. I think that option was a good idea at the time. Even people who couldn't afford it could participate to some degree. I don't know if that model would carry over to this site, though.

I think we should all offer suggestions, ideas and our views regarding what we want from PP and what we are willing to do or not willing. I would not pay but I am quite willing to keep writing for free.

I think you may have misunderstood the intention. Don't think of it as a "you must pay to write here", but rather "anyone can write here, and maybe pay for extra benefits/features". Its just a thought at the moment, but I don't think anyone is going to complain if we don't go anywhere. The rev sharing platform has gone away for good, and that is what the real change is. However, that was our only real purpose... a writing platform that shared ad revenue. Moving forward we can either embrance another purpose or go away completely. It is currently up in the air at the moment. FIrst, I am going to work on getting people zip files for their content so at least they have it. After that, we'll have to see how things go.

That is exactly what I was suggesting.I am willing to write for free. But I wont be paying.

Thank you elitecodex for responding and making the clarification.

As I've mentioned before, I have a community of friends I can actually see and touch. I don't need an online community. I can see where some may feel differently. Especially if they are housebound, etc. Of course there are dangers in making online personalities (who may be hiding what they are) one's endearing friends. I write for money. But that's not the whole picture. I've come to realize my writing (and other forms of communicating) have vastly improved in the process. And writing makes me do some research and cement my thinking in sensible order. I learn to teach, and not simply to know. If you teach, then you KNOW, not know.

I have only just seen this post. I had said that I would be willing to pay to keep this site going and I am still willing to do that. The reasons I said that have nothing to do with corallevang suggesting it or bestwriter 's suggestion of writing for free, though I thank them both for the suggestions, as I had not considered them. I would be willing to pay because (1) belonging to this site got me writing again, when I was doing very little. As the amount of writing required was so small, it meant I had no barriers to writing, which I found in trying to write for Hubpages. PersonaPaper can also take some credit for me completing my thesis! (2) I have found great community and friendship here, which I did not find elsewhere. I know that I do not rely on earnings here to survive and recognise that many others need to write to earn. If they cannot earn, theycannot write on a particular site.

Thank you for your comments MegL .I do understand what you mean. The post was not a criticism about people paying to post. And I do hope there are no misunderstandings. Please see CoralLevang 's response and my comments. She is the one who always has been encouraging and supporting me here.

Absolutely! I think everyone has to make their own choices and I recognise that I am very fortunate to be able to "pay to write" if I choose, rather than depending on very scanty income sharing from writing sites that may disappear suddenly, unlike PP.
