Whaddya Mean You Don't Know About The Dress?

Just over An Hour To Go Now

I have my Viva for my studies in just over an hour's time. I am sitting in University dressed in my interview finery, and will shortly make my way up to the room to set up my laptop etc, in readiness for the interview (2 - 3 hours!)

Getting Ready

Just over an hour ago, I was at home getting ready to catch the train and doing some last minute things (of course), so I was only getting into my interview dress about 10 minutes before the train was due to leave the station (we live very close). I went to show my husband the dress on me and asked the stupid question, "What do you think?". Of course, he replied, "I don't know about the dress!"

He Wasn't Joking!

I bought this dress last November especially for attending the Viva. He saw it then. I know I haven't tried it on since but 10 minutes before the train is due to leave is NOT the time to express doubts. But after over 40 years of marriage, I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN BETTER THAN TO ASK!

It Stayed On

Yes, I could have worn my old faithful stand by and caught a later train, but I bought this for the Viva and by golly, it is getting worn for the Viva, even if I have put on a teensy bit of weight over Christmas! emoticon

Walking Down The Road

Of course, most people travel by car these days but I like the train and we have got rid of the car. The dress is a wrap over skirt and it was windy. So I had to walk down the road holding the edges of the dress together at mid thigh level, so I didn't flash leg at thigh level! The dress has a jacket and I got a grey woollen jacket to go with it, which was pretty warm with an anorak and carrying my back pack!

Back to Jogging bottoms and T-Shirts tonight

I will be glad to get back to my usual clothes tonight and get these fancy shoes off and back into trainers!

Wish Me Luck

Less than an hour to go until it starts now. Going for coffee and a bathroom break then get set up!

Good Luck for the Viva interview and I hope nothing goes wrong with the computer and everything else. You did all the work and you are prepared to knock their socks off with new ideas on your area. Again Good luck.

Oh my, my guess is that it is all over now and nobody cared too much about the dress! My ex used to hold vivas in his jeans. As he was staff, nobody could object. I do hope it all went well and you can relax now.

Knock'em dead, sister! Hope your viva backroom team has fizz on ice like we used to for ours!

Yes, I passed emoticon  though I have minor corrections but that was expected.

Thank you very much. 3 hours later or more, I crawled out!

MegL wrote on January 25, 2016, 3:31 PM

LOL. Thanks.

MegL wrote on January 25, 2016, 3:32 PM

Thank you. I had to plug the computer into the socket half way through as it ran out of charge!

MegL wrote on January 25, 2016, 3:33 PM

I would have been perfectly happy in jeans or jogging bottoms emoticon  Yes, it's all over now. Just the corrections and then get it bound.

That was very thoughtful. At the end, everyone just wanted out, the family people to get home to their kids and the external examiner presumably to get in her car for the long drive to Dublin!

My former boss had several bottles of fizz on ice for his viva students when they emerged! I miss him greatly, he and his colleague Professor were both very thoughtful bosses.

Very happy to hear you passed - guess you and Mr L will now be having a good celebration yourselves?

You should have gone all the way and asked if he thought the dress made your bum look big. Tsk! Women!

MegL wrote on January 25, 2016, 5:27 PM

Yes, an early night in bed to recuperate and prepare for a day's childminding tomorrow! LOL

MegL wrote on January 25, 2016, 5:29 PM

LOL, it was more the big tum I think. Must spend some time on exercise now.

WordChazer wrote on January 25, 2016, 5:31 PM

Sorry? 'Early night'. 'Bed'. These are concepts I don't think I understand any longer emoticon

I hope you do not go there and you put the question 'How do I look' as your post is rift about the dress and nothing about the viva Here is what I heard from a friend. A lady was expecting her boss over. He had a funny nose. She tells her little girl not to look at the nose and she goes on and on the whole day about it. The boss arrives and the lady asks the boss what he would like in his nose cream or lime!!!
