Police Dogs

Police Dogs are special animals. They are smart German Shepherds who are trained by Policemen do hunt for illegal narcotics and help sniff down criminals who are trying to escape and hide. We have a Police K9 within our local town Police Department. I actually saw it in one of the police cruisers at a stop light one day on our main highway as I was driving a long and was stopped at the same stop light. I looked at it through the window with an air of respect.

Because I have such respect for these four legged Police helpers, it really saddens me when I hear of them getting shot during the line of duty and dying. That is news I saw yesterday on Facebook, a poor Police K9 was shot a couple of times in the line of duty and was fighting for his life. The Veterinarians tending to him, thought he just may make it and get better, but he had a turn for the worse and the poor dog died.

Police dogs are indeed a special breed of animal and I am glad that someone who shoots a police dog faces the same penalties as someone who shoots a human police officer.

Yes, I agree with that!

In the UK they use a whole range of breeds depending on the task. Most sniffer dogs seem to be spaniels, here

Awe no. :( I hope he'll be okay! I've never seen a police dog, but I love dogs, and I don't like hearing when they get hurt.
