Cool Day At The Dog Park

It was a cool and partly sunny day at the dog park for me and my hound dog Valentino today, a great way to spend an hour or so on this second day of the new year.
I would have liked to have taken Valentino to the dog park on New Year's Day but it was much colder, windier, and cloudy than today. I was feeling a bit guilty about not being able to run with my dog since my ankle was still sore from my New Year's Eve fall while we were out and about in the neighborhood. So when I felt the warmth of the afternoon sun today, I said, "Come on, V, let's go to the dog park!"
Upon our arrival at Walnut Woods Metro Park I was delighted to see a few other dog lovers had braved the chilly weather to bring their dogs to the dog park too. Unfortunately, all but one left as we arrived! That turned out quite alright, for Valentino still had a running mate in the one remaining dog.
V's new canine pal was great at tennis ball retrieval, even dropping the ball on command. My dog shows little interest in balls, but today we discovered that a larger ball catches his interest. My hound would chase an old basketball we kicked around!
Hmmm... I just might have to get my dog Valentino a basketball with which to play. And maybe he will learn to bring it back after he retrieves it, ha!

My dogs loved to chase and fetch all kinds of balls. It was good exercise for me and them. Glad you enjoyed your day.

We have never had a dog which would retrieve balls or sticks! All of them have simply run after the ball then ignored it!

I'm glad you and V had a chance to get out and enjoy some nice weather. My little Ace loves for us to throw his chew toys for him to chase, but after a time or two of bringing them back, he "hides" them in his crate and brings us a different one.

I'm too old and slow to challenge even a pet snail. It's nice you care for your pet so well.

I am glad both of you had good outing and yes the ball you mention reminds me of the ball my dog use to run and fetch.

Did you get your broken eyeglasses repaired yet? I'm happy Valentino got some exercise today.

It is nice that you took your dog Valentino to the park in spite of your sore ankle.Glad he enjoyed it too.

Me and V really did enjoy the dog park part of our day. My hound is so in focus on all the scents around that a tennis ball has little thrill for him, other than to de-fuzz it, ha!

Most of my dogs have done the same thing, in to the chase but not the fetch part of the game.

It sounds as though Ace has his own retrieval game to play and has you well-trained to play along!

It's a good thing we took advantage of the warmth of the sun yesterday as we sure aren't feeling it today!

I understand your comment and got a chuckle from it too!
My dog Valentino has actually made me feel younger, definitely more active!

It seems to be trying to snow here now

The dog park was great for V and me. He could run and play and I didn't have to move around much on my foot like I do when I walk the neighborhood with him. I will have to find those sunsets of yours!

Valentino loves the dog park so it's always a good time for us there and I'm ever so glad we went Saturday since it has turned colder and I don't care to be out for as long a time. I am definitely going to have to pick up a large ball for my dog. I think he will enjoy it.

No, Paulie I have not taken care of my broken glasses yet, but it is on my to-do list! Valentino enjoys the dog park and I feel good knowing he gets the exercise, as well as socialization, he needs when we visit the park.

Enjoy it V did! The dog park is easier on me than walking him, as he runs and plays with the other dogs and I can just stand and watch the dogs enjoy their running around.

Pets need to be initiated into this activity when they are puppies. You can try your hand and see if Valentino takes to it.

A dog park? A DOG park? I am most put out. On the other hand, we cats just treat the entire world as one big place to roam. I would be most interested to sit on a roof somewhere and watch a bunch of dogs play basketball. Love from Freya the Catblog Cat.
