Broken Glasses for New Years Eve

Yes, I am worrying about my broken glasses this New Year's Eve day. No, these are not champagne glasses made for toasting in the coming year. These are my seeing eyeglasses, broken on my early morning dog walk.

Sure enough, klutz that I am, while walking my dog Valentino this morning, I stumbled and fell. My eyeglasses went flying into the dew-chilled grass along the alleyway. But of course it was time-consuming to find them with my poor eyesight. But find them I did!

Fortunately, the lenses were not broken in the fall, just the frame. One arm is completely broken away from its lens.

Once home I began the search for an old pair of glasses that I had kept in case I had need for them down the road. It took a half hour or so but find them I did!

Now, this pair of eyeglasses is a decade old so the prescription is not current for my failing vision. However, I can see to work and drive as long as I pay no attention to the ghostly double visions I sometimes see while wearing them.

I plan to get some super crazy glue to see if I can temporarily repair my glasses, as I really can not handle the cost of getting new eye-wear now.

As for me, I have road rash on my hands and knees. My knees are already turning black and blue, as is one of my shin bones. And my right ankle feels like it has a kink in it and I have a slight limp from working on it today. There is no swelling nor bruising so I think it will be fine. I am sure I will recover from the fall quickly and be just fine.

I was so proud of my dog during my fall. Valentino immediately stood by me and waited for me to rise from the ground and collect myself. Not once did he attempt to make a great escape even though he could have since I had dropped my hold on his leash when I stumbled.

All-in-all, this New Year's Eve day seems no different from any other day of the soon-to-be old year. I am filling my glass with hope and faith that the coming new year will hold nothing but happy adventures for me and Valentino and for you, too. Happy New Year 2016!

I hope you have a very good 2016. Sorry for your accident breaking your glasses. It is my biggest fear as well.

Oh no! I am sorry to hear of your fall! I'm glad Valentino stayed by your side, but its bad news about your glasses. I'm sure the super glue will work, just don't glue them to your face!

On the bright side, you'll have a new "outlook" for 2016 for sure. lol

Maybe your optician could fit your unbroken lenses into some old frames. They often have these available. That should be low cost or free.

Hoping you have a bright and fruitful new year and sorry about your glasses and your fall and it is a good thing that Valentino did not bolt.

Feeling ok this morning, although my ankle is still a bit sore when walking the dog. For now the old glasses will do but I'll get the broken ones repaired or replaced when I can.

That was a nasty fall you had. Let's hope that's the worst thing which will happen to you in the coming year!

Prayers are always appreciated, Barb, thank you! I wasn't thrilled with the fall and broken glasses but maybe that's a fitting end to the old year, opening the door for the new and improved! emoticon

Thankfully just a small "ouch" and will get the broken glasses fixed one way or another, eventually!

RuthCox wrote on January 3, 2016, 11:05 AM

That is definitely an option to check into.

Valentino not making a getaway was the one good thing about the fall. It is good to know he stays with me if something is wrong. Good dog he is!

RuthCox wrote on January 3, 2016, 12:01 PM

It could have been much worse so I am grateful for that fact. From your lips to the ears of the powers that be for no worse mishaps than this for me in the new year, thank you!

RuthCox wrote on January 3, 2016, 12:39 PM

Thank you! I will be working on the eyeglass repair or replace issue soon.

'Faithful' should be Valentinto's middle name. Dogs are known for this specially when they have developed a bond with their master.
