The Rodesian Ridgeback Dog
Rhodesian Ridgeback dogs take awhile to mature. They will finally settle down and make calm household pets. They are very energetic and never seem to get tired. They love to run in open spaces.
The Rhodesian Ridgeback dog will weigh 65 to 90 pounds and be 24 to 27 inches tall. Their coats are short and smooth. The hair down the middle of their back grows in the opposite direction so it looks like a ridge. Their noses will be brown, liver or black. The Rhodesian Ridgeback dog is red or wheat color.
The Rhodesian Ridgeback dog was developed by the Boer farmers of South Africa. They were used to hunt big game by the Boer farmers. Then the Europeans came to South Africa in the 16th century they brought Mastiffs and Greyhounds. These dogs were bred to the native dogs and this is how the Rhodesian Ridgeback dog came to be.
They are calm when they are in the house. They are very gentle with children. They are a very protective dog. They make great family watchdogs. They can be very stubborn dogs at times. They must be socialized and trained when they are young. When you take them for a walk they will need to be kept on a leash.
