Family Christmas Tomorrow

Tomorrow is our family Christmas. We leave around 8 in the morning to drive three hours to our oldest son's house. Last year we had the family Christmas here. But we don't mind switching out every year. We always have a good time no matter whose house.

There will be a big lunch with everyone bringing a side dish and dessert. I am bringing my famous homemade from scratch pecan pies. I have always made my own. I enjoying cooking homemade to me the taste is better and so are the ingredients. I use organic as much as possible and less sugar as I can.

I make my own syrup for the pies too. It just takes to each cup sugar 1/4 cup water in a pan, stir, then set pan on stove not stirring and bring to rolling boil for one minute let cool in pan. And store in glass jar with lid. Also, one can substitute brown sugar instead of white sugar. To this syrup if making to eat with pancakes add butter and favorite flavorings such as vanilla or maple. Want chocolate syrup well then just add i teaspoon vanilla and 4-6 tablespoons cocoa, couple tablespoons butter while syrup is still hot. Instant chocolate syrup. How hard is that. Grand children love chocolate syrup and pancakes.

Have you ever heard of syrup pies? My mom the farm girl cook use to make syrup pies. They are the pecan pie recipe without the pecans.

Its really good to spend Christmas with the whole family. When my parents died, we do not gather much anymore.

Your pecan pies look so delicious and it is really a long time since I have had one. Thanks for sharing your syrup recipe. I have always loved chocolate syrup on pancakes.

Oh I'm sorry to hear that. Our children have already said they will continue family reunions and Christmas gathering once a year. It doesn't have to be on Christmas day but of course some families live distances. Still it I agree with you it is so important.

You are so welcome. If it can be bought in a store it can be made at home. After all some one had to start the recipe and cook it.

That's a useful basic recipe for syrup. My father was a pharmacist and made his own syrup for medicine.
