Some Basic Common sense rules of living.

I was Browsing through some websites and i found something in Spanish that i though in light of the decay of common courtesy nowadays i though would be nice to translate and share it here with you... I’m not saying here that you need to learn this, but its good to sometimes be reminded and take into account when teaching our kids one day so here goes

Some basic rules of living.

- Are you arriving somewhere? ... Greet.

- Are you leaving somewhere? ... Say goodbye.

- Did you get a Favor ? ... Say Thank you .

- Did you promise something? ... Keep your promise and deliver.

- Did you offend someone? ... Apologize

- Did you not understand ? ... Ask until you do.

- Do you have ? ... Share

- Do you not have ? ... Don’t envy .

- Did you make a mess ? ... Clean up

- Do you not like someone ? ... Show respect

- Do you love ? ... Show it.

- Are you not going to help ? ... Stay out of the way .

- Did you break ? ... Fix it

- Did you borrow ? ... Give it back .

- Are you spoken to ? ... Answer

- Did you turn on ? ... Turn off

- Did you open ? ... Close.

- Did you buy ? ... Pay .

Would you like to be treated like that? ... Treat others like that.

I guess what im saying is ... treat others like you wanna be treated, and teach your kids this.

These sound oddly similar to the cowboy rules, which is good, since it means the basics are international. One I remember is to never stay where I aint welcome. :D

It's basic etiquette to be courteous at all times. Your attitude reflects on you. Very well said.

It's really a must to learn how to be polite with words. I love how these are translated. :)

well i know its contradictory but this used to be common sense or courtesy, or at least i was taught that way... and it seems stranger to see every day... so yeah ... although its not common anymore it once was

These are all perfectly good common sense to me, because I was brought up that way, but unfortunately a lot of people these days are not taught proper etiquette, so it's quite common to find people not thanking you for things. Still, I think if you do try and do your bit, others will hopefully see and learn.

My mother was the culprit behind much of the things I learned at home that helped me to become a well mannered individual. I look at these suggestions you made up above as pointers and as such that she showed me as a youth.

Like these. I read one about farm etiquette one time and it was "leave the gate as you found it". That is, if it was open, leave it open, if it was closed, then leave it closed. Another that I like comes from Zen, I think, and it's "wash your own bowl". It is so simple and yet, so profound!
