Homework is doing my head in!

Doing My Head In?

Just in case "doing my head in" is a Northern Ireland only phrase, it means "it's driving me crazy" or "I am really frustrated with this"!

No Not My Homework

My granddaughter's homework. She does it at our house once a week. She seems to believe she can't do maths or spellings, when she is perfectly capable of both. "We haven't been taught decimals"! I can't believe the teacher would give homework on a subject that hasn't been taught! Yes, she can do decimals, when she bothers to think instead of just reacting. "Those spellings are too hard"! No, they are not, as is proved when her Friday test results come in and the spellings she learnt on a Wednesday are all correct. emoticon

I Can't

I really dislike the helplessness phrase "I can't", waiting for someone else to tell her what to do with maths. I wouldn't mind if she genuinely could not do it, but she can. If she were adult, I would ask her if she would like some cheese with her "Whine"!

I Can!

She can do her English homework with no problem, getting on with it by herself. She even likes writing "books" on my computer.

Engineer?

She wants to be a Lego engineer, designing Lego sets. I tell her she needs maths for that.

Next Week

If her homework is not complete by 6 pm, she won't get going to her cousins' house. Let's see if that motivates her to complete it without whining!

This is an issue in any country and kids and homework. Don't let it get you down.

Homework makes my head hurt also! Yet kids have to learn a little discipline, or they will never amount to much in life. No worries!

Yes, it's unwise to pamper a child. It is not an expression of love for the child.

Math is so important for kids today especially if they are studying science. I hope you get to cash out before Thanksgiving and then tell us about it.

I think you've hit upon a great way to motivate your granddaughter!

I wonder what frustrates her so when she can do it. Good thing Grandma doesn't do it for her.
