Wondering Where I was?

Probably not, but if you were, I am here to tell you that childminding is hard work and you don't have time for much else when you're doing it, especially if the children are young. I agreed (what am I saying? I was told) to look after two of my grandchildren for a long weekend while my daughter and her husband went to France to see a rugby match (yes, they were in France this weekend).

Didn't I remember?

Did I not remember what hard work children are? Well, no, I didn't. For one reason, I had 4 years between each of mine, not 2 and secondly, you forget over time.

Timetable

We got up between 7 and 7.30am, whether or not we were still sleeping when the children awoke. By the time I had changed nappies, got them dressed, fed them breakfast, opened the beds and curtains, got myself washed and dressed and done the dishes, it was already gone 9 am and all I can say, is thank goodness they didn't have to go to school because they would have been late. Unfortunately it rained very hard the entire weekend and with recent colds, I couldn't take them out, so they certainly were not at the beach!

Few Hours?

Why a few hours? Because i look after them Monday, Tuesdays and Fridays too and it's not that long til 9am tomorrow. All I can say, is thank goodness for granddads that come up and give you a bit of help!

It is amazing, isn't it, how exhausting it can be to be a Grandma? I know why the Maker fixed our body clocks to stop child-bearing possibilities at a reasonable age. Can you imagine mothering again?

Don't even go there! Full-time childcare is NOT in my retirement plan!

I totally agree with and sometime the preteens are even worse than the little ones.

You forget from when your own children were young how exhausting it can be to chase after tiny kids all day!

Kids are tiring to keep up with. That is why I believe our bodies are built to have them while we are young lol

Yes, taking care of young children is a lot of hard work. I notice that when my granddaughter comes over and she is already 5.

I was considering adoption for a while but realized I'm just not up to it anymore - want to rest from taking care of kids now...lol

Were your daughter and her husband in Paris this weekend? I hope they are safely home. Did they have any stories to tell? Were you worried about them? Or were you too busy with the children to be aware of the news?

No, thank goodness. They were near the French / Swiss border for a rugby match. It was eventually cancelled and it took them 5 hours at border control to get back into Switzerland for their flight home. Having lived in Northern Ireland for over 40 years, I don't tend to worry too much - a bit fatalistic. I would be more worried about the driving between airport and home.

My wife and I (mostly my wife) watch 3 grandkids every day, full time.

O! I feel exhausted even reading that. I could do it but there are so many other things I want to do too.
