New Members for October on Persona Paper

It's hard to keep good news quiet, so while I am stealing a bit of Kasman 's thunder, I wanted to share that 10 new members have joined Persona Paper so far this month. A hearty welcome to one and all, and hoping your experiences here will be positive ones.
Earlier this month I posted " Attracting and Keeping New Members ," ideas were floated about how to do both these things. A lively discourse followed, including some members of the community commenting on his/her willingness to participate in a Welcoming Committee if one was formed. Another idea was that the new moderators might serve in this capacity, but to the best of my knowledge, moderators have not yet been named.
It falls to each of us as community members to give these newcomers, and all yet to join, the warm welcome we would like to have if the shoe was on the other foot. I'm not talking about responsibility or "ought to," but providing a gentle reminder to walk the walk about which we previously talked. A sentence or two of greeting to a new member's Profile page or directly on an introductory post will go a long way in demonstrating the type of community we are.

I haven't been very active on writing sites including PesonaPaper, but I still welcome the new members here.

Thank you for doing so motrojam . And when you have the time/inclination, why not type out a post or two here?

Hello any and all. I have gotten quite a welcome so far, and am just learning the basics of Persona Paper so far. You guys have definitely been very kind. Cheers! Jeramey.

I'm so pleased that this has been your experience. I'd like to think as a community we can make that true for each and every new member.

I try to read all of the introduction posts and welcome them. But I know I do miss a few.

I have been trying to connect with as many new members as I can. Thanks for sharing this post.

We all miss a few. For a while, I wasn't greeting new members at all, for which I now feel chagrined. Thanks for helping with the efforts to make the new folks feel welcome.

I'm sure the new members appreciate your efforts. I know I do. Everything counts!

I think I know where you coming from. It cool to stay in a blog community with people who welcome you and got new friends.

That is part of it crowntower . For me, it is appalling to think what it must be like to be new to any site. You join with happy anticipation, write your first article/post and then...nothing. No responses. No one reads. You are sitting there essentially alone in this community of people. That's why I think there is value in welcoming newcomers. Instead of each of them trying to find their way in a sea of strangers, a few folks have dropped by to say hello and welcome.

It is always good to welcome new members and make them feel at home.

I haven't been too active recently but once life slows down a bit, I hope to do my part in welcoming new people.

There were so many that said hi to me on that first post and that is part of what made me want to be here. So I try to return the favor by saying hi to others as they join

I'm only reading at the moment with the odd comment here and there...someday I'll get back...hopefully..

They you go -- and I agree with your thinking here. : )
Feisty56 wrote on October 23, 2015, 11:04 AM
That's how I feel, too, CalmGemini . It can be intimidating to be brand new at a site -- at least it is for me -- and the welcome messages are a signal that the newcomer isn't in this all alone.
Feisty56 wrote on October 23, 2015, 11:25 AM
Oh, MegL , we're all looking forward to calling you Dr. MegL. You keep right on doing what you're doing; there's plenty of us to cover for you.
Feisty56 wrote on October 23, 2015, 11:27 AM
Everything helps. : ) You and Ruby don't want to sidle over to the new member list now and then, just to say hello and give a wag of the tail? (Ruby's tail, not yours. lol)

I'm so happy to see you Ellis . I know you're busy on the home front, but you are certainly missed here. Take care, please.

I also want to welcome all new members. I am reading others posts like Coral Levang suggests to do to get to know what others like.
1Feisty56 wrote on October 23, 2015, 2:53 PM
Yes, CoralLevang 's suggested method of reading through other members' older posts is a good way to get to know more about each member. There is really so many avenues onsite to be active, there's really never a dull moment.
markgraham wrote on October 23, 2015, 3:05 PM
I totally agree with you. I also would like to volunteer on this site somehow and I wrote to codeelitex and maelou.
1CoralLevang wrote on October 23, 2015, 7:41 PM
I dunno, Feisty56 . I would kind of like to see &AbbyG wag her tail.
1Feisty56 wrote on October 23, 2015, 8:47 PM
That's because you're ornery!
Feisty56 wrote on October 24, 2015, 3:04 PM
Oh, if hubby could only get a video of you wagging your tail -- I'd pay money to see that. : )

These are great ideas, Fiesty56. I've read a couple of posts by two fairly new writers and have enjoyed them very much. Those of you who follow and read me make me feel very welcome, and I truly appreciate that. I hope other new writers will enjoy this site as much as I have so far.

Thank you.: I am so glad to learn your experiences here thus far have been positive ones. This is a friendly community, at least that's what I've found and newcomers are always welcome.

I think this is a fine idea, and thank you for the motivation!

Sometimes I think my role in life is to be a cheerleader -- just don't expect any short skirts or somersaults. lol
