Early Morning Bargains

After reading a post by LoudMan earlier and his bargains I thought I'd tell you about some excellent deals I had in the shop this morning; as I mentioned earlier I was up and about early so decided to take advantage of the fact and popped out earlier than usual to our local corner shop (which happens to be a Tesco, don't get me started on corporate giants...). Anyway, I grabbed the milk and a couple of bottles of water for the kids to take to school and noticed the end of aisle shelves looked different to usual - I wandered over to take a look and was glad I did as there were some hefty reductions on non-perishable products that will save me a good few quid at the checkout when I go shopping this evening.

Bags of wholewheat pasta had been reduced to 25p (from £1.49), tomato stir fry sauce was just 9p a sachet (usually £1), my usual green tea teabags were being sold for 29p a pack (£1.79 any other time) and boxes of the horrible chocolate cereal the kids like was 58p (instead of £2.59). I'm stocked up now on all those things for at least a couple of weeks, I'm not sure why any of it has been reduced as the date on every single packet is October NEXT YEAR so it'll all keep fine in the cupboard.

In the fridges there were some packets of mince reduced too but I didn't buy any of those as the date was up today and the plastic on the top was swelling out - I'm funny with meat and will only buy reduced stuff if I'm confident on the freshness of it, this mince today looked a bit dark to me so I left it where it was and bought a nice fresh pack instead for spaghetti bolognese tonight.

Really chuffed - for once *I* got the bargains!

I, too, keep an eye out for bargins. Our Tesco is discounting moggie fodder and I've saved £4 on four boxes. Will be popping back tomorrow morning!

Ah. You eat healthier than I do. I like that nasty plain-old white pasta, most notably for manicotti, filled with full-fat ricotta. Say, what ever is a sachet? I figured it was a dance or something that smells good.

Definitely, the early bird got the worm in this case!

I love bargains like that. I feel like I've won the lottery or something!
I just found pie crust mixes for 10 cents a box. I cannot make it from scratch for that!
Great for quiche!
I also found tins of diced tomatoes for 7 cents awhile back. I picked up 20 cans. I just finished those.

That's some good bargain-finding there.

Oh I love finding bargains, sales, etc., as I'm always trying to budget and such. Not just with food, but other items as well. I won't be broke, but still go to the clearance/sale sections first.

I would be careful with meat, too, but it sounds like you scored a great lot for your pantry--well done!
