My Strategy at Persona Paper Has Changed This Week

I am truly behind in all that I want to accomplish this month. Last week, I was right on target for the week--21 articles and more than 800 coins for the week.

With the second week nearly over at five and half days, I am sitting with this my 10th article, and at just over 400 coins. With my current rate of coins this week, I will be lucky to get just past the 500 mark, which will put me behind by 100 coins for goals for the two weeks. The articles follow suit--12 or 13 articles for the week, will set me back by 8 or 9 articles from my goal.

Now, that being said, this is my 524th article here on Persona Paper. I wonder how much more I can say/write that I have not said before. Many of us are in the same boat.

I am going to make it my goal for this next couple of days to go back into three to five writers' archives and read and comment on 10 for each of the early things that have been long been buried. Simply going through my notifications, I have lost a lot of opportunity to read, and definitely see their patterns of what I can expect. I need to expand.

I am not sure just who will be chosen this week. The categories of people about which I am thinking:

  • Someone in a different country
  • Someone I am not following
  • Someone whom I have never read
  • Someone I follow regularly
  • Someone who "gets me"
  • Someone I do "not get"
  • Someone who makes me laugh
  • Someone recommended to me by someone else
  • Someone who just started at PP
  • Someone who signed up over a year ago

I may never catch up enough to accomplish my payout by Christmas, but I need to find ways to amp up my own return on investment of my time and effort.

And I am not really talking money.

You can only do what you can do. Things happen that you cannot help. The only thing you can do is your best and to make the right choices that are right for you in writing, reading or anything.

My goodness, just when I think you have found all the ways of ramping up effort, you surprise me again with another!

CoralLevang wrote on September 13, 2015, 3:19 PM

I am not trying to put tougher limits on myself. Just trying to find new ways.

Rufuszen wrote on September 13, 2015, 3:23 PM

That's a lot of reading! I haven't set any targets myself, and I feel a bit guilty about it compared to your determination!

Activity has really plummeted this weekend with scant articles posted to comment on. That's why new members are needed to infuse fresh material to comment on and vice versa. But what can we do about subject discussed at length. I do think quality is hurt when struggling to find topics for posts. As you say, we reach that point....PP is very demanding whereas other sites I have been on were strong in attracting outside views. As for coming up with post ideas, you can always review the movies and TV shows you watch. Think more like an article writer than blogger.

MegL I look for ways to stay engaged, make it fun, and exploratory. I've been bogged down by my own reactions to certain events, and negativity of others, in real life and here on PP. I recognize that I am the only one responsible for the orchestration of my life, and it would be nice if I could just ignore it, or delete it, but (unfortunately), deleting comments and blocking people are not an option here or in life. emoticon :winking: Thank you, once again, for "getting me," and always seeing the bright side.

Rufuszen YOU have nothing about which to feel guilty! You are one that I LOVE to read.
My determination....is about life, and getting through it. The moment I feel like I have no purpose, even if it's some made-up goal on the fly here, makes me push forward in life.

There are times when I do not feel like I have much left in me. It has little to do with anything other than refusing to give up the ghost. emoticon

Thank you for the ideas. I think that "Movie Reviews" were on the list on the other article. And though reviews may be what some like to write, and I do some of them, I am not one that particularly cares for that style of writing, any more than I appreciate some reviewers' opinions, which rarely affect my decisions. So, I will continue to think like a storyteller than a more sterile writer. That's the beauty of PP and other sites like it.

As far as activity plummeting...I do what I can do to encourage people to write here, and not talk poorly of the site (intended or not) as seems to have been a bit of a trend of late. It is important for us all to find our best writing cocktail here and keep true to self.

Thanks again for you ideas.

I had not yet given thought to the idea I may run out of new ideas/topics about which to write, but then, I have written far fewer posts than you have! I understand your "return on investment" of your time and energy to mean improved and more varied interaction within the community, getting members engaged in the writing/reading/commenting onsite, etc. I wish you the best of success.

This is why Facebook works; i.e., it relies on people sharing every detail of their lives and there are enough who cannot resist doing so that Zuckerberg is now a billionaire. However, members on sites such as this tend to want to post something more substantive. The problem is that most only have a certain - call it comfort, expertise, desire, whatever - to post on just so much. Thus, many 'pace' themselves in terms of how often they post. The flip side of that is the lack of earning potential for any given piece, no matter the site these days. Since this site allows some earnings for posting comments, many will fall back on that, convincing themselves they are gleaning something from reading rather than posting; whether monetarily or knowledge or 'friendships,' etc.

It all depends on what you are trying to garner from the site. We ALL do it to be read. When we're not, even if we are making money, we tend to ask: "What's the point?!" Most of us do it with at least one eye on the money and the other on 'something' else, be it number of reads (reach) or knowledge or interest or... This is why you have to be careful to not put 'too much' stock in any, single goal for 'too long.' There will be times when the muses flow and you can seemingly post endlessly. Other times, everything seems to be of interest and worth reading. Then there are times when you seem to be the most popular kid on the block, while you will have moments where you feel like a pariah. Focus too hard on any one of those and, inevitably, there will come a time when you will feel either overwhelmed, discouraged, disappointed, paranoid, or disgusted - sometimes all at the same time.

I'm finding it so hard to keep up to date with reading people on here - I tend to respond to my comments, read a few off the front page then run out of time to do any more!

Paulie wrote on September 13, 2015, 11:02 PM

I have been falling behind a little, too, in reaching my goals due to family affairs which take precedence. I, too, need to get more out of PP for the time and energy I put into it.

BarbRad wrote on September 14, 2015, 2:01 AM

I have to admire your diligence here. I wish I could match it, but I'm finding less and less time to write anything but blogs. I'm sure you will unearth some buried treasure.

cheri wrote on September 14, 2015, 6:12 AM

You really make good strategies and setting up goals which I think hard for me to copy. But this inspires me to do well.

CoralLevang wrote on September 14, 2015, 6:30 AM

Feisty56 Thank you. You are one of my favorite folks. xo

CoralLevang wrote on September 14, 2015, 6:33 AM

morilla Oh, how I appreciate these words of wisdom (?). I hesitate using that word, as I hope you know it is not said as insult.

CoralLevang wrote on September 14, 2015, 6:36 AM

chrisandmark I try to respond to all comments, but that's one of those "what's the point?" that morilla refers to for me.

CoralLevang wrote on September 14, 2015, 6:36 AM

I guess we all need to figure it out for ourselves, Paulie . What works best.

CoralLevang wrote on September 14, 2015, 6:37 AM

Thanks, BarbRad , but I'm not feeling so diligent nowadays. emoticon :winking: I am looking forward to the dig. emoticon

CoralLevang wrote on September 14, 2015, 6:39 AM

cheri I am hardly one you should copy. But doing well for oneself is to what we should all look forward. emoticon

There is always a limit to what we can write about after we have written so many posts. That is the thing though. I know for a fact that over at MyLot, we get paid, period. They never let us know how we are paid. But it works. And the key there as well as any site like this is interaction. Even Bubblews jumped on the interaction bandwagon. But out of all these sites, penny for penny, dollar for dollar, MyLot has them all beat.

CoralLevang wrote on September 14, 2015, 12:50 PM

Perhaps, I will find my way there more often someday soon.

mrdprince wrote on September 14, 2015, 2:33 PM

At least you have a plan. So many of us just dabble, at best, on this site. Sad but true. I admit I am one of those same. But, I am looking at this a little more seriously now. I liked the way you put your breakdown on the bottom of your post. Pretty cool!

inertia4 wrote on September 14, 2015, 6:53 PM

That would be nice to see. But I am in no way telling anyone to stop being here. Everyone has to do what they feel comfortable with.

CoralLevang wrote on September 14, 2015, 7:06 PM

mrdprince Thank you for your kind words.

wolfgirl569 wrote on September 14, 2015, 7:28 PM

That is a great idea for helping you to pick up some coins and learn more about who you are following. Good luck

Paulie wrote on September 15, 2015, 3:38 AM

I like your comments comparing the posting on Facebook and here on PP. They are so true!

AudreyHowitt wrote on September 15, 2015, 7:00 PM

Well good for you for having a plan! I tend to have none and so the drifting is killing me--I need to start to develop a plan for my online activities!!
