Setting Writing Goals

I see so many people here who are setting goals CoralLevang and lexiconlover and they are accomplishing them or at least getting very close. I use to set goals when I was writing at Bubblews but I never made the goals and most of the time never even came close. Kids have a way of distracting me and getting all of my much needed attention. I love my little fellas so I can't resist them. Not to mention there are plenty of things that need to be done around the house and I tend to get busy cleaning and such. My husband tells me that I try to do too much all at once. Normally this is what he says about the way I clean the house. This might be true from his point of view but for me I have a pattern I stick to. Now if only I could get a good writing/blogging schedule going. I highly doubt that this will happen any time soon though. I have several ideas for post written down in my little "handy dandy notebook" and I am working on one of those posts right now. My main problem is getting around and commenting on other people's posts. My computer loads so slow and when I go to a page it takes forever for me to write a response and get it posted. This drives me totally nuts.

So I am going to set a goal for today. I am going to get one post written and posted here and at Mylot. I am going to visit at least ten people and comment on their posts here and at ML. That is my goal for today's writing. I have visited at least 5 people here so far at PP and this is my first post of the day. I am well over half way done with my daily goal for PP. I do want to visit more than 10 people daily at each site so I need to get to work on it.

Do you have any goals?

P.S. I am taking this one day at a time. Not every day is the same here in the Lovejoy Household. These are my writing goals for today.

Aw, thanks for mentioning me! I generally set the same goal every day. But I totally get you not being able to set the same goals every day because not everyday is the same. :) Good luck.

Every day is different here too so goals have to be different too.

My two big goals are submitting my two short stories, one to "Glimmer Train" and the other to "Science Fiction and Fantasy," both this month. I just have to finish tweaking them till I'm satisfied... Wish me luck.

I think you've chosen the approach the will work best for you as far as setting goals -- and may well work best for a lot of people. Setting realistic goals makes the most sense and provides the least discouragement. I wish you the best of success. : )

I really need to set myself a writing goal. At the moment when the urge strikes I write a post.

I seldom set goals. Just try to pop in and out to read and if time write as the day goes on.

Although I don't have small children, my days are unpredictable. My mother is in a nursing home, and I have to visit her which takes a chunk of time out of my day. My computer is slow sometimes, too. I love the library's computers. They are super fast. Internet Explorer, which I never cared for, did a recent revamp and update. They are super fast now. That might make a difference for you.

I don't set exact goals, but I do try to get some sort of writing in every day. But like you, I get busy and distracted.

Good luck with your stories! Wish me luck in finishing mine in this lifetime lol.

Thanks! And you'll finish yours. Just picture me standing looking over your shoulder saying, "Ahem. So, how's it going?"

This is exactly how you do it! You set attainable things that work for you. If you find that 10 is too much, lower it to 8, and see if that works for now. Eventually, you will find what feels okay, and then you can choose to push one day, and then go back to what you can comfortably do most days.

Good for you!!! And thanks for the mention.

I try to set goals most days. Since I blog on several different sites here, daily two cents and blogjob I really need to start setting some. Between all three sites the most blog posts that I can create per day is about 49. Which really is a great deal. I really enjoy writing and have a great deal to say, but I am not sure how I could manage my time to end up doing that much. This is my main income so I guess I need to get focused.

I also have writing goals on PP. I try to post at least three articles and interact so I make a dime a day. Sometimes it is tough meeting that goal. Good luck with your goals!

I tried setting up goals when I was on gather but it just drove me nuts so I discontinued and now I'm happy ..... it just doesn't work for everyone. LOL

How I wish I can also set goals here and be able to reach them but I do not like to make promises I cannot keep
