Epic Fail: My Attempt at Subtle Humor

I thought that a poll about polls would be mildly humorous. I even allowed for a response about "poles," as well. It appears that it was either: a.) over-looked, b.) misunderstood, or c.) people do not share in my silly sense of humor.

I half-expected that someone would mention fishing poles, or telephone poles, or dance poles (a.k.a. stripper poles), or any other variety of poles that have nothing to do with the other polls, unless someone is polling people about poles.

But I bombed.

The only one that remotely seemed to be amused (or get my feeble attempt at the humor) was DawnWriter , to whom I am forever indebted for the one laugh. At least, it was not a total bust!

As Saavik (Kirstie Alley) says to Capt. Spock in "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan": Humor. It is a difficult concept. It is illogical. emoticon

Well, i'm glad I did that poll on poles before I came here. I don't feel so bad about being flippant now.

I think everyone must have gone back and recovered their sense of humour, as I see you have plenty of comments there now. I have just finished 2 days and an evening "shift" of child minding. I don't get any computer time while doing that, so I appear to disappear!

Had you polled me prior to posting your poll about polls and poles I would have shared with you my experience in polling people about polls here on PP not too long ago. Just for the record, prior to this use of the word poll to state the number of times I used poll in two poll related comments I had used poll twelve times in two comments. I have now used poll seventeen times. Run that up the flag pole and let's see who salutes.

I should have read your post about polls before reading and commenting on this one.

Ah, yes. great quote!

CoralLevang wrote on August 26, 2015, 1:35 AM

Remember who you're talking to...being flippant is not a bad thing in that regard!

CoralLevang wrote on August 26, 2015, 1:36 AM

MegL I agree. LOL It just took them a little time to get warmed up! LOL

CoralLevang wrote on August 26, 2015, 1:41 AM

Poll that and see who would give a poll for your polling poll or pole.
Okay...lack of sleep is making me weird(er).

CoralLevang wrote on August 26, 2015, 1:41 AM

I appreciate your reading them both and leaving feedback!

Well I must apollagise for not taking your Pole but I tend to work backwards, hmm... maybe I should rephrase that... I tend to work from the bottom up .... oh I think I will quit will I'm a head ...

alexdg1 wrote on August 26, 2015, 7:46 AM

Oh, wait. Saavik says that to Admiral Kirk. My bad.

The exchange that I was thinking of was actually this:

Saavik (referring to Kirk): He's so....human.
Spock: Nobody's perfect, Lt. Saavik.

CoralLevang wrote on August 26, 2015, 9:35 AM

Oh, you are naughty, naughty! emoticon :winking: I shall not touch this one with a 10-foot pole!

Actually, when I read that poll today, it made me chuckle. I thought it was clever.

DWDavisRSL wrote on August 26, 2015, 9:01 PM

Next thing you know you'll be poling your pirough through perilous pools or protruding poles on your path to the polling place.

CoralLevang wrote on August 27, 2015, 1:06 AM

Why, thank you, bleekley . emoticon

CoralLevang wrote on August 27, 2015, 1:08 AM

&VisionofHope Well, truth be told, I know that my humor can be too irreverent for some people's taste. But sometimes, people just don't "get it."

BarbRad wrote on August 27, 2015, 1:09 AM

I did see one funny option on your poll, but I didn't choose it.

NickRThomas wrote on August 27, 2015, 2:00 PM

As a fellow writer of satire I promise you I 'got' it as well. And well done for resisting the temptation to add a 'Did this post go over your head?' poll at the end.

CoralLevang wrote on August 27, 2015, 2:14 PM

You did see it, Barb, and that counts for something! emoticon :winking:

CoralLevang wrote on August 27, 2015, 2:17 PM

NickRThomas Oh, goodness! Another member of SmartA$$es R Us. I love it!
And yes, I often feel that temptation, and most times I am not being veiled, nor a smart alec. Thank you for this comment. You made my day!
