Two Celebrities, Two hospitals

There is a great dearth of good quality health facilities in Pakistan . Things are not so bad in big cities but in smaller towns and villages, there are very few hospitals and medical centers. Often people have to travel to major cities when their loved ones are very sick and quite often people die on the way.
In this scenario, it is quite heartening to see celebrities turn into philanthropists and work hard to establish hospitals in far flung areas of the country. These institutions are mainly run by donations and charity and it is amazing how much money these celebrities are able to generate to establish these hospitals where people are treated totally FREE OF COST.
Their appeal for charity can generate billions of rupees annually. One such example is Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre. Founded by ex-cricketer Imran khan and funded by people of Pakistan, This hospital provides comprehensive care free of cost to thousands of indigent cancer patients. I also give money as charity here regularly.
Now Shahid-Afridi , another very famous cricketer has built a hospital for his home village and plans to build schools for those who do not have access to daily amenities we take for granted.
I think it is great when heroes use their fame, status and money to give something back to their country and to people who idolize them so much.

It is a good thing, indeed, when celebrities do things for good. I appreciate those who do the good, but do not get in front of the camera to say, "Look what I did and how much money I gave, aren't you impressed with me?" Some are quite humble. They do much well-before anyone ever knows about it.

How selfless and generous are these two men, giving back to the communities and the people there that so desperately need this assistance! I am certain this type of giving, from one of their own, rather than from far-flung nations, is more well-received and appreciated -- and rightfully so. Wouldn't it be wonderful if the headlines about more celebrities weren't these sort of happy-ending stories rather than the gossip and mischief we so often read?

That's a great story. Always good to hear about those who give back.
