I Will Follow Him

It's funny how something random occurs and just leads to something really big and interesting
On my Facebook account, paperdaisyflower7 shared a post by someone of a particular song, "I will follow him", from a concert. I listened and was really struck by the song. You can hear it here, if you want, this is either the original post made by Daisy's friend or a similar one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FcLF5wopyjo The song was beautiful and half way through it suddenly changes tempo to a fast beat. Daisy said she had loved this song ever since it was featured in Sister Act, so I followed that hint and tracked down the song in the film Sister Act, with Whoopi Goldberg and you can see that same song performed here as part of the film: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VPpd-6X3tEo
But it Seemed Familiar
Now I didn't think I had heard it before. I haven't seen the film Sister Act and I hadn't seen that concert previously (and hold that thought, there is more to come) so I checked back further to see where it had come from and back in the 60s, when I was in my teens, it was a POP SONG. It was sung by Petula Clark and then by Little Peggy March who recorded it when she was 15 years old and got a hit. You can hear Peggy sing it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a8-6o_ultLg At that point in time, it was definitely a pop song and encapsulated its own time by talking about following your true love. In those days, it was expected that the woman followed the man and this song caught that spirit. When I listened to Peggy March singing, I recognised the song. The words were changed slightly and the tempo of the first part of the music to make it more of a hymn for the film Sister Act.
Prior to being sung in English, the tune was originally an instrumental written by Pourcel and can be heard here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1tp7qJIBRPA
The Conductor Caught My Attention
By this time, of course, I had listened to this song a number of times and the conductor caught my attention - Andre Rieu. I hadn't heard of him, either but he had several Youtube clips in the side bar and i realised he was well known. I had a look at a few of his concerts and they looked like the kind i would like. (I haven't been to a concert, since the Beatles came to Cardiff in the 60s!)
He's coming to Belfast!
I looked at Andre Rieu's tour schedule and he is coming to Belfast Northern Ireland in December! And there are tickets available.
Now, who is coming with me?
The term "Follow" has also provoked a further idea for an article. Must see if I can get it down.

I loved this song the way they did it in Sister Act, especially the first half. But I love the part where the Pope is up in the box jiving. If you haven't seen the movie, it's cute. I loved that movie.
And the song "My God" (My Guy)... LOL YOU really should get a copy and watch the movie.

Well Belfast is a bit far for me at the moment, but I love how one song led you to find out so much and also, I loved Sister Act. As for following, well I do follow HIM

It is amazing what one thought can lead to...and now you're going to a concert! If Belfast wasn't a long swim across the pond they call the Atlantic for me, I'd enjoy going there with you.

It is a beautiful song that can be arranged and sung as a hymn, as an upbeat pop song, or a combination of the two as was done in Sister Act. The concert version was moving.

I definitely remember the song "I Will Follow Him" by Peggy March. I heard it a lot in high school and I still occasionally will listen to it.

I like the Georgia Gibbs version. She changed the song into "I will Follow You".

This is one of the few songs I love. I also loved the movie

Many times an idea is not original. I, too, like to trace things back to their origins. As to religious movies, they almost never coincide with the Bible, so I never watch them. Not even the obvious ones like The 10 Commandments...
