Evening Colors and a Milestone

I decided that I would check in once more before shutting down for the evening.

First call just sounded, and by the time I submit this, Evening Colors will have played five minutes later. These bugle calls are just part of the reason I love living on a Naval installation. Blame it on my having been in the Navy Band program.

Tomorrow morning, the National Anthem will play at 0800. I am usually awake to hear it, though it has been to what I open my eyes in the morning from time-to-time.

As I was finishing up reading the new posts here on Persona Paper, I am shutting down with 3000 Coins in my bank, valued at $4.50. It seems appropriate to call it "a night."

It is time for me to take out the trash and recycle bins, and see about making it through another chapter or two of In the Garden of Beasts by Eric Larson.

Goodnight to all.

Thanks, bestwriter . It's 10:30 p.m. I'm heading to bed now. G'night!

It looks like you are in the habit of reading before hitting the sack. You are catching up to me in a hurry. I should be at 4000 coins by the end of my work day.

Hullo from Kiwi land. I'm making an effort to be here a little more often. Sounds like things are going well for you? Sweet dreams.

You're coins are building up well there. It's always fun to see if more appear overnight.

I used to live next to an airfield and could sleep through jets taking off. Don't think I could do that now!

CoralLevang wrote on August 20, 2015, 5:39 AM

I am trying to do more of that...reading, in general.

Congratulations on the 4000!!

HUGS valmnz !! So good to see you, my Kiwi friend! I'm hangin' in there! How was your winter?

CoralLevang wrote on August 20, 2015, 5:41 AM

I haven't looked, MegL ... just getting caught up on the notifications.

CoralLevang wrote on August 20, 2015, 5:42 AM

I did, as well, when I lived near (and then on) Bergstrom AFB. We had RF4C's taking off in the wee hours, and doing touch and go landing night ops.

One of the things I enjoyed going with my sons to Boy Scout camp was the bugle calls. It was a reminder of my days in the Army.

Kasman wrote on August 20, 2015, 8:04 AM

I could never do that! I wake up if a fly buzzes past my nose!

Great work CoralLevang Sometimes when we lose inspiration to write here, it is posts such as yours that help us get back to our feet...or the keyboard in this case emoticon

Ah, Tooms! The triumph of power over aerodynamics. I could watch them for hours.

wolfgirl569 wrote on August 20, 2015, 10:03 AM

Hope you had a great night. You will soon pass me on coins at the rate you are climbing. Congrats

lexiconlover wrote on August 20, 2015, 10:32 AM

Hope you had a goodnights sleep.

CoralLevang wrote on August 20, 2015, 10:50 AM

I remember them from camp, too, when I was a kid.

CoralLevang wrote on August 20, 2015, 10:52 AM

I used to love Taps, singing it each night at Girl Scout Camp. After I came into the military, and I had to be a part of military funerals, when I was in the Navy Band, when they did echo Taps, I would stand in formation and could not keep the tears from pouring down my face.

CoralLevang wrote on August 20, 2015, 10:54 AM

A fly past one's nose and a fighter in the skies of freedom are two different things, Kasman . I know which one makes me sleep better at night. emoticon :winking:

CoralLevang wrote on August 20, 2015, 10:54 AM

Likewise, Rufuszen !

CoralLevang wrote on August 20, 2015, 10:55 AM

Thank you, Dawnwriter , for your lovely, kind compliment.

CoralLevang wrote on August 20, 2015, 10:56 AM

Good morning, wolfgirl569 . It's not a competition, my friend. emoticon :winking: But thank you.

CoralLevang wrote on August 20, 2015, 10:57 AM

lexiconlover It was okay... fell asleep on the couch, then back up about 2 a.m. Back to sleep just past 3 a.m. Awake at 7:30. It was blasted hot last night. Ugh!

wolfgirl569 wrote on August 20, 2015, 4:53 PM

But that does sometimes help motivate, maybe that is what I need to do lol

CoralLevang wrote on August 20, 2015, 4:55 PM

If you would like some competition, then let's come up with something.

wolfgirl569 wrote on August 20, 2015, 6:44 PM

I am afraid I would not be able to keep up with as scatter brained as I can be lol

CoralLevang wrote on August 21, 2015, 1:10 AM

We can make some simple ones. emoticon

Oooooh.... I have an idea. Need to check the TOU to make sure that there isn't any violation, if I do something.

wolfgirl569 wrote on August 21, 2015, 10:08 AM

Looking forward to your idea. I have not even finished a 30 day challenge yet for one reason or another lol

CoralLevang wrote on August 21, 2015, 11:34 AM

I am going to devise a couple of things. You'll know them when you see them. Just give me a bit of time.

BarbRad wrote on August 22, 2015, 12:10 AM

The only bugles I hear anymore are at burial services. I've heard taps twice in two years and seen two flags given to next of kin. Many of our friends were in the military.

CoralLevang wrote on August 22, 2015, 1:05 AM

Yes, BarbRad ... I have a tough time at the funerals.

BarbRad wrote on August 22, 2015, 1:52 AM

I'll bet you do. But there is something so moving about taps.
