Is Being Fat a Big Liability?

While meeting relatives or friends, specially during special occasions, do you get unfavorable greetings like:" oh you look bigger, or oh you look fat now!"

It will ruin your day! To think that they do not know that you can be hurt by their irresponsible remarks, you can always tell yourself to just be calm and pretend not affected by that negative comment. You can always wish that they should know good manners, that it is not good to be too blunt or too vocal in their opinions specially when it involves physical outlook.

After hearing such unfavorable remark, you may think that people tend to look at the physical aspect only instead of looking at your other positive traits. Or you may want to tell them that it also your main problem, being overweight, and you do not need their unsolicited advice regarding how you look because you are doing your best to keep fit and be healthy.

It is so frustrating that some people could be tactless and insensitive!

Friends and family can be the most insensitive. And if you react to it, they talk about you more. It's horrible how people that supposedly love us, can be like this.

Actually, much of that frustration can stem from you being 'sensitive' to it as well. If you're overweight, do something about it. If you're comfortable with where you're at, what do you care what anyone thinks? Either way, it's up to you, not them. While it may be insensitive or seem that way, if they didn't care, they might not say anything at all. Now, if they start pushing their observations rather than simply making them, that's a different story.

How are people going to feel when they start paying by the pound for air travel. Yes, the airlines are moving toward scales and charging ticket fares by the pound.

Unfortunately in our society these days, being skinny is glamorous and being overweight is not. But in all actuality, it's really not healthy either. If you are unhappy about your weight and don't want the remarks, then go on a diet and exercise. If you have no problem with you weight and just don't want to hear it, then just simply ignore and move on.

Yes those comments or rather “comparisons” are often offered as family gatherings. They're just comparing you to themselves. If you are a little chubbier than them, they pat themselves on the back. If they had already packed a few pounds, now they feel better seeing that it happened to you too! :) That's where they're coming from. Ignore them! But don't go out and gain 500 pounds! Being overweight is bad for your health.
