Slaw Dog

I have been craving a good Slaw Dog for ages now. I finally caved in and made hot dogs tonight. On my hot dogs I like to use mustard, chili and slaw. Most people also request onions but I give them a pass. I made some great slaw and they turned out really good. So tonight we had hot dogs, baked beans and slaw. Normally I have Texas Pete chili but they stopped making it so tonight I used Wolf Brand chili. It turned out pretty good. It has a more smokey flavor than I am accustomed to but I think we will stick with it. I prefer the smokey taste to the tomato taste of most chili's I have tried. Believe me I have picked up every brand to try in place of my Texas Pete chili. Generic store brands to name brands. I am still going to try the other brands but it is looking like Wolf Brand is what we are sticking with.

How do you like your hot dogs?

I love hot dogs. But I basically like mustard on mine. I sometimes have onions on them. I like them simple really. And it all comes down to the hot dogs themselves. I only buy Sabrett hot dogs. Nothing like the original dirty water dogs. Nice!!!

I want them burnt and plain that is how they are the best

About the only thing I don't like on a chili dog is onions. And yes Cole slaw on a chili dog is one of my favorites. I'm also a fan of sauerkraut.

I am a very plain person when it comes to my hot dogs. I like them on a toasted roll with cheddar cheese sauce and that's about it. I also like them just hot off the grill plain on a bun.

Chili, melted cheese, chopped onions, and sliced pickled jalapenos. No really. I didn't just make that up! :)

I like the chili I used to get at the small hole in the wall Mexican restaurants we once had around here, most are gone now but I can tell you I don't recall a lot of tomato flavor them, most had pinto beans and beef or pork with plenty of green chili, back then I was still a woose so I'd go for the mild bowl of chili.

Oh, no, I haven't had dinner yet! I'm gonna have to grab a slaw dog!

I have never heard of Sabrett hot dogs. I will have to look them up. Enjoy your dirty water dogs!

Al ot of people don't like hot dogs. Lets face it, they are not nutritious at all. I just get the taste for one every once in a while.

Shellyann36 wrote on August 15, 2015, 8:54 PM

When I make mine I like to get them nice and burnt as well. Crispy is good to me.

You can have all of the sauerkraut you want. Do you mix the sauerkraut with anything else?

Shellyann36 wrote on August 15, 2015, 9:13 PM

I have never even thought of cheddar cheese sauce on mine. Sounds as if you are easy to please.

Shellyann36 wrote on August 15, 2015, 9:14 PM

LOL sounds as if you are ordering nachos!!! Do you use a regular bun or do you try something different?

Shellyann36 wrote on August 15, 2015, 9:31 PM

LOL does that mean that you go for the hot stuff now??

Shellyann36 wrote on August 15, 2015, 9:33 PM

They are really good. Enjoy!

When it comes to food I tend to prefer simpler fare.

Only if the mood strikes me. I can also eat sauerkraut alone. But on a dog it's great.

Never heard of them? Really? Most supermarkets sell them. They have different size packages. Some with the regular amount and some with well over 50 hot dogs. And they also have the long ones also. They are, hands down, the best hot dogs.

Prefer a bun. But I'm OK with a slice of bread. My husband insists on a bun!

I put butter and peanut butter on Swedish crisp bread and a hot dog on that and sometimes mustard.

Mostly I like a hot dog burned black on a grill, served with onions and mustard. Oh, I should have used the plural, not the singular.

Slaw would probably be good on a hot dog. Have you ever tried sauerkraut? Mustard is my favorite condiment.
