My PC has lumps in it !!!!

I don´t know what´s up with my computer the last few days, but think if it was a car it would be backfiring black smoke from the exhaust ! And it´s definitely running lumpy as we would say in the North of England.

It´s not doing things smoothly and quickly as it was before, when loading a new page on here it starts and stops, and as I´m typing, the letters sometimes do not appear on the screen for a few seconds. It's doing that right now.

Yesterday I did a clean up and then a defrag , but it hasn´t made a difference.

I have a wifi connection and wonder if atmospheric conditions could be playing a small part in all of this, after all most of the channels on the TV are on and then off at the moment. But after saying that I have had the message that " Firefox is not responding" a few times.

If any of you out there can suggest something to get me back on track, I would appreciate that, but I must warn you that computer speak goes right over my head, so any suggestions of things to try must be written in an idiot proof way, and step by step.

I bet my friend Barry who is Koalemos will jump right in with helpful suggestions, it´s not the first time he has saved the day with me and my PC.

Thanks in advance for any helpful suggestions you all might have.

Have you got an anti virus on your computer? Try running that. Also if you have a malware detector, run that too. Both can be downloaded free, for example AVG free antivirus and Malware bytes. The other thing is, are you running out of space on your hard disk?

It has to do with two things, one is your antivirus software which checks all what is being uploaded on your page and I think Ads too interfere. No lumps as far as I understand as even I get problems when I type.

Thanks MegL.
I installed a free anti virus the other day, it was running lumpy before that though, so I can´t say it's that causing a problem. I wonder if an old anti virus is causing this problem though, I will have to check and unistall.

I was also wondering if you were running out if space on your computer. If you just use the internet you might try reinstalling the browser.

Running two anti virus applications can cause problems

I know precisely what I would do, but I will not recommend that because it involves reinstalling Windows. Instead I would suggest running system restore to a point before the problems occurred. Atmospheric conditions can affect Internet access but would not affect other procedures.

I get the slow typing sometimes, I think it is me trying to do to much at one time when that happens

This is very true MegL because they will scan each other. An antivirus also uses constant resources, so having 2 will affect the speed.

On this website it has to be the ads. Of course if we run adblockers like we do on every other site we won't get paid here. The autostart video ads under the posts bug me and my purple baby-san.

I seem to be running a lumpy computer when it comes to this site, with all the ads and the noise. I do not have this problem elsewhere.

I would run an antivirus and malware on it. I use avast antivirus and malwarebytes for malware. They both have free programs and work really well.

Many are saying the same and blaming all the ad´s emoticon

Hollyhocks100 wrote on July 21, 2015, 4:46 AM

Thanks Barry, I will try that if problems persist emoticon

Many are saying the same thing Coral. I don´t have the sound on my PC, it would drive me up the wall.

The most common cause of my computer occasionally slowing down is that some program is updating itself or asking permission to update itself or some process is running in the background and is hogging the Central Processing Unit (CPU). Whatever is running in the background might have an icon in the bottom line of the computer screen. I also track down such problems by pressing CTRL-ALT-DEL to get to the Start Task Manager and then clicking the Performance tab to see if a high percent of the CPU is being used even though I have no applications (computer programs) open. If so, I click the Processes tab and there click the CPU tab twice to see if a process is hogging the CPU. In your case, a possibility is that some obscure process is awaiting your input. If running one antivirus program at a time has not speeded up your computer, consider investigating if some CPU-hogging process is running in the background.

Another cause of my computer slowing down used to sometimes be that some program I obtained and installed put itself in Startup without my say-so. Having a bunch of programs running in the background, many of them constantly checking for updates and trying to do some unneeded and unwanted process, every time I started my computer slowed it a lot. I solved that problem by downloading and installing the free edition of WinPatrol. Now when a program or process tries to put itself in Startup, WinPatrol asks if I allow or deny permission. Most often I click Deny.

The free antivirus program I am currently using is Panda. I chose it because of favorable reviews.

I am not an expert in these things.I think there has been many suggestions and hopefully the problem has been solved. But one thing, many of the problems happens to me only when I am on Persona Paper.I do not know why.
