Locked in the Toilet

Memories

Having been to the school reunion and staying with my cousin, brought back memories of the time I got locked in the toilet on a school trip, many years ago.

Field Trip

The visit was a field course for biology and we went to stay in a very old historic house that had been refurbished for educational use, with dormitories and bathrooms with several toilet cubicles. I paid a visit to the loo but when I went to leave, the handle came off in my hand and I was locked in. It was a very big and old house and no one heard my calls, so I had to wait until they came looking.

Too small, Too Tall

The space under the door was too small for me to fit and the cubicle sides were too high to climb over. When they found me, they could not open the door because it had broken that side too.

Bucket Escape

They passed a bucket over the cubicle wall and I place it upside down on the toilet seat and used that to climb over to the next cubicle and out to freedom!

Getting locked up in a toilet could be quite an ordeal. If there is one thing that I disliked about travel were those toilets in the planes. They are so tiny and the locking system always made me uncomfortable.

What a nasty little adventure. At least they came looking for you sooner rather than later.

Sounds like the sort of thing you might have needed therapy for in later years!

Ah, the memories! I had something similar happen. It's always in the bathroom. LOL Glad you had a good time reminiscing.

No, not at all. It didn't scare me at the time. I just expected that someone would need to use the toilet sooner or later and I would get help then.

I have never used the toilet on a plane. I restrict my liquid intake beforehand and use the facilities in the airport before boarding. On today's flight, there were 80 people and 1 toilet! It was n use the whole time. one woman used it twice on a one-hour flight.

LOL, you weren't allowed to need therapy for things like that in my day. We were allowed to roam free and wide, unlike today and getting locked in the toilet was just boring.

Oh yes, it's surprising what you learn about things you knew nothing about in previous years!

Today's kids would be offered counselling and compensation!

Yes, traumatised! That's not to say that some people would not truly have felt scared or worried but I didn't see any need for that in my situation at the time.

That experience really appears funny. Couldn't you break the door down?

Well I am glad they finally came looking for you. Neat idea on how to get out.

Not the typical use for a bucket in the loo, perhaps, but no less appreciated, I'm sure!

It was really an accident ! The rusty handle was the culprit.
