Do You Like Ghosts?

I don't like ghosts. Not talking your celebration kind of . Specifically referring to the “ghosts” who create or or accounts at , and then come and haunt you.

Well! Maybe it's just my .

But they create the appearance that they're just snooping on you!

Won't mention the names of the sites because the communities and networks are absolutely fabulous! Have been with them for several years and have no complaints. In fact, you know you've been with a group for a while when the site owners or customer service representatives respond to your messages and talk to you as if they know you! :)

* * *

So here's the scenario.

Many sites reward you for referring or recruiting others to become members. That's a great incentive to tell others. Yes? Plus! Additional revenues might be generated by the account creation and/or subsequent user activity. Right?

So … when you are spreading the good news, the audience is the worldwide web. Meaning? The audience includes people you may not know.

If a stranger reads one of my recommendations and decides to sign up for the site, that's awesome. But doesn't it annoy you when the stranger makes sure they stay “A STRANGER”!

Meaning? Meaning they create an account. Some folks don't use actual pics of themselves and that's OK. But they don't bother to even upload an avatar and basically do not supply any bio tidbits about themselves at all and also … THEY NEVER DO ANYTHING!! Yet! They are “connected” to you like almost … forever! Why? Because they signed up using your referrer code. Now they have access to the system and they hang around like a "shadow" for who knows what reason. (???)

◊They sure look like “ghosts” to me!◊

Quite frankly, that gives me the heebie-jeebies! Makes me feel like the account was only set up so my activity could be watched or monitored, as if they're stalking me. It's very annoying and ever so creepy!

Do you like ghosts? I DON'T!!

I appreciate you trying to find the humor in the matter but you really don't want that. There are no benefits to these people attaching themselves to you like a parasite.

Oh yeah! I totally got that you were joking. Thanks for commenting.

I am always suspicious of people like this - I worry about spam and other forms of abuse...

BTW, you might not know that flashing GIFs can pose a problem for some of your readers, so I thought I'd mention it. This is especially the case if they tend towards the red end of the colour spectrum, and if they flash quickly. It can trigger eye strain and headaches in a lot of people, and even seizures in susceptible individuals.

I was careful while scrolling past the image above, but I still have a piercing headache from the few seconds' of exposure to it emoticon

Sorry if I caused your head to hurt. I was trying out some HTML coding. They were NOT supposed to flash. They were supposed fall slowly like rain. Didn't work! Removed them.

I would not care for that type of ghost either. In some ways it is better to have one that does not harass you and take hits at you but it is still a bit creepy.

I wondered about things like this. I'm still getting followers at Bubblews and haven't poster there in months Happily, we can now block people there.

Sounds like a good time to contact GhostBusters...."I ain't afraid of no ghosts!"

It's creepy because the "non-activity" creates the impression of someone lying in wait to pounce!

You will likely continue to get followers if your bubbles are good reads. When people click the follow button often they don't bother to notice that you haven't published a bubble for several months or you're inactive. They probably think you're active, they liked your bubbles and can't wait to read more. So they follow you!

LOL. I might be able to if the ghost was made out of chocolate! :)

I just remembered that I have a friendly ghost of sorts. My aunt Becky always loves to read my threads but she never registers or comments. She is a friendly ghost. I hope that your ghost turns into a friendly one.

Hmm, I've never noticed this happening with writing sites, although I do have a small number of people who sent me a friend request on Facebook but then never really interact with me, lol
