Unabashed Me Not Stinky

It is not a secret that I have opened up in the last several years, and started to tell my story. I do it by writing, as well as using the spoken word.

Some would say I have done it all my life. I would have to argue that they only think I have, as most of the time I have been very careful about what I "should" say or not, as the case may be. I have kept much of who I am to myself, only to share with a select few. It certainly has gotten "worse" since I have gone through certain situations in my life.

At some point, I think I finally said, "F& $% it! "

I decided that I was going to be true to me and who I am. If people cannot tolerate me, for whatever their reasons, then that is their decision to make. I suppose this is learning to live unabashedly.

I like that word. Unabashed. ( defines it: Not abashed; undisguised, unapologetic. It is synonymous with unashamed, unblushing, and unembarrassed. Other words that are related: Bold, brassy, brazen, cheeky, saucy, unapologetic, undeterred, unblinking, unflinching. also defines abash as: to destroy the self-possession or self-confidence of. Some of its synonyms: embarrass, confuse, discount, fluster, and rattle. Others to which it is related: unhinge, unsettle, upset; debase, degrade, demean, humiliate, and shame.

I think that being true to oneself is NOT allowing others, yourself or any situation to destroy you, or shame you into being anything other than who you are. And not everyone is going to like that about you.

When I look again at the meaning for unabashed, I cannot help but smile when I see these words--Bold, brassy, brazen, cheeky and saucy. I wish I had a dollar for every time in the last 50 years I have heard someone describe me using these words.

But recently, I heard a new description from my friend, Drew: " You're like Xena, only not stinky. "

It is one description that I will wear unabashedly.

Unabashedly indeed. But what was so stinky about Xena? I know she bathed at least once, with Gabriel. Interesting episode, that one.

It was quite controversial in its time.

Who is Xena? Looks like she might be a kind of Wonder Woman figure?
