Econolodge Bad, Days Inn Good part one

Econolodge Biltmore, Asheville, NC

After a 6 hour drive my wife and I pulled into the above-mentioned establishment and knew from the second we approached the front desk that something wasn't right.

We had reservations, and the douchebag behind the counter, who called himself the "Night Manager" was all the Mr. Personality one could ask for or expect at a $77.00 motel. Our first bad, apparently. All we wanted was a clean, comfortable bed, a decent night's sleep and a hot shower.

After pulling the sheets back on the bed we immediately noticed several large orange-ish stains on both sides of the bed, likely from blood or urine, and my wife went straight to the front desk to ask for clean sheets. Ordinarily, I would expect the employee, no matter what their position or status to apologize at the very least and offer to get us clean sheets. Not here.

The "Night Manager" told my wife he'd be right down- not to replace the sheets, mind you, but to check them out- as if we lied about the stained sheets? After about a ten minute wait there came a tap at our door, and as I pulled the door open the "Night Manager" stood there and held out a stack of linens, stating "That's what we got". Stay tuned for part two...

My husband used to like Econolodge, but I wasn't very impressed with one where we stayed together.

This looks like a self serve motel. I never stayed in Econolodge and I never will based on your story.

I've not ever stayed at Econolodge and your review has convinced me not to. While it costs a bit more, my wife and I usually stay at Hampton Inn when traveling. We've always had a good stay with them.

I may have stayed at the aforementioned establishment.

Yeah, we likely won't be staying at another ever again, Barb.

Self serve, that's a great way to put it!

You know, when we travel we prefer Best Western, and there's one right up the road from where this happened. We were just trying to be thrifty for this brief trip. Oh well...

It's on Tunnel Rd amongst all the other chain motels/hotels. Actually, I was out in your neck of the woods some years ago for a few weeks' stay with family!

Yes, it kinda sucked, to put it bluntly. Here comes the rest of the story.

Best Western is often our alternate when a Hampton isn't available. We actually spent part of our honeymoon (27 years ago) at a Best Western on Prince Edward Island and it was wonderful.

Sounds like camping might have been a much better option. Normally when we go somewhere we camp instead of spending the cash on the hotels/motels/lodges.
