Egg prices are rising weekly, it seems, here. While at the grocery store a few days ago, I picked up a dozen eggs because our chickens have not been laying well this summer. I did not notice the price of them until I got home and was checking my receipt. $3.18 a dozen!
Now, I bought some at Easter and they were around $2 a dozen, which I thought was rather expensive. The price now is utterly ridiculous! Consumers need to be aware of these price increases and why we are being charged so much.
I know the egg price increase is being blamed on the bird flu that seems to be a problem in the chicken flocks at the moment. I know that my daughter is not able to show poultry this year due to the flu. Our state board of health has stopped all poultry being at the fair, swap meets, and flea markets. It is sad but part of being a farmer.
What are egg prices near you? Has the bird flu affected your prices?
