A couple of weeks ago me and my husband spent the week at a caravan park in Saltcoats on the west coast of Scotland. It's about 3 and a half hours drive from where we live.

The caravan park was ok, but what was more enjoyable was the area. Scotland is beautiful and we had a great time.

While we were there we explored the local area, we went to Irvine, Kilmarnock and Glasgow. we visited two museums the Kelvingrove at Glasgow which is great and the Scottish Maritime museum at Irvine which is also interesting.

We were also very lucky with the weather as it was lovely and sunny, which turns out to be pretty important when you are staying in a caravan. It was a bit strange as on a night it was freezing cold, but during the day it was red hot. I guess that must be the properties of a caravan.

Ah, Sandylands! You get such a great view from there - in fact if you look over the water you will see my old home island. I used to drink in Saltcoats years ago we always had a good night out, even if the place is a bit mad at night.

Next time you holiday in Scotland try going a bit further north. The drive from Perth through Glencoe to Fort William and on to Mallaig is quite breathtaking.

It was a lovely view, but sadly we didn't really sample the local nightlife x

I keep meaning to, I really want to drive up to Skye, and across to OBan, there's so many beautiful parts x

The nightlife is not what it used to be - lots of trouble in the town now at night and the one and only nightclub closed down a few years ago. Saltcoats is one of those great places for being by the sea and being within easy travel time of some lovely places to see and things to do, but I definitely wouldn't go out there at night anymore. It was bad when I used to go out there almost 15 years ago and unfortunately its gotten a lot worse which is a shame because its a lovely place.

I highly recommend Skye, I was there three years ago. Unfortunately we were just passing through to the Isle of Lewis for a holiday, I wish we had spent some time in Skye on the way there or back because from what little I seen of it it was absolutely stunning. Oban is nice too, been there loads of times.

That's a shame, we mostly went into Kilmarnock to eat and then came back to the clubhouse, but it's a beautiful area x

Its a lovely area. Ayr is nice too and its not far away, lots of nice places to eat there too. The whole west coast is lovely really plus you have the islands of Arran, Cumbrae (where I am from) and Bute which are all lovely in their own very different ways.

That is great you had a nice trip to Scotland. That is one country I would love to travel to someday. It is on my bucket list.
