Another One Bites The Dust

Today I decided to clear my virtual footprint. I decided to delete various accounts that I have in many places. Amongst them are some writing sites too. I thought that getting out of writing sites that I don’t like or am not active in is a good place to start clearing up.

The first site I visited returned a message ‘Account Suspended’. I thought that the message was from the site informing me that my account was suspended (possibly due to inactivity). I was about the close the tab with satisfaction that I am already not there on the site, when I realised that I hadn’t even logged in so the message was not about or to me specifically. I tried typing the name of the site again, with the same result.

There was another site that I used to write in and that abruptly shut a couple of weeks ago. I kept getting the message that the site was under maintenance. After a bit, it became suspicious. That is when I reached out to other members that I had connect with on the site and beyond it and the general consensus is that it has shut down.

Clearly this is not a model that is paying -- hope Persona Papers lasts it out.

Yes, it's a pity. Even more so, that people will not be able to get their articles off there to repurpose them elsewhere.

As to this, I"m not certain. If the site is gone, they'd have a hard time arguing matters if you re-use the articles elsewhere -- especially if you were to wait until the articles disappear from cache. I assume they will eventually do that? I suppose one way to find out is to visit www.archive.org to see if there is snapshot accessibility to the old material? Of course, you can set up your own site and re-use them, as you will not complain against yourself.

NAture of the business or beast... depends of how you look at it. Writing sites come and go. Some were worth our time by actually paying us. Others, not so much.

I think if you mention the names of the closed sites in your article, it would be helpful to others.

I still have an account on Bubblews, but I haven't logged in for the past five months. That is because Bubblews refuses to pay me the $300 past due. In the past I have joined a few sites which shut down before I had a chance to close my account. As long as we don't have any members on this site who start boasting about earning $20 per week, we won't have to work about this site shutting down.
