Tablecloths and such

I decided that for my daughter's wedding in June, that I would crochet her a tablecloth. I had just finished crocheting some curtains and thought this would be a long project, but a fun one as well. The first thing I had to decide was whether to make it round or square or rectangular. Most tablecloths based on a squared shape are basically motifs that you crochet individually and then piece together. The last couple of blankets that I have done were done in this manner. I decided that I would die of boredom doing it that way, so chose a circular shape instead.

I am about 50 inches in diameter at this point and I have learned so much in the process of making this piece. I still have about a month so I am hoping to finish in the next couple of weeks!

Thank you for reading this blurb--any other crocheters out there?

No, I am not a crocheter at all. I don't see or cook. I read and write. That is wonderful that you doing that.

That sounds lovely. :) I am not a crocheter myself. I need to get back into my cross stitching.

I can do basic squares, but that's about it. Knitting used to be my thing but now it causes me too much pain due to a nerve trapping somewhere. Your work of art/ heirloom piece is lovely.

AudreyHowitt wrote on May 21, 2015, 2:33 PM

I love cross stitch as well!

Thank you! I was working on it last night and since the deadline is looming, I am spending a bunch of time on it. I noticed a twinge in my wrist--anyway, too much of any repetitive motion is harmful I think

That's going to be a beautiful tablecloth. I used to crochet - but extremely simple patterns. Unfortunately, but the time I had the time and inclination to learn crocheting arthritis developed in my hands, so I'm unable to do it. I found it very relaxing.

I also find it relaxing--I have two rows left and then blocking!

I am a self-taught knitter who very recently discovered crocheting is more fun than previously expected. I haven't had the chance to try anything as ambitious as a tablecloth yet, but want to start making doilies. So far, I've mostly been crocheting with worsted weight yarns.

AudreyHowitt wrote on June 13, 2015, 8:37 PM

I took my knitting out the other day after completing the tablecloth and found that I just wasn't ready to pick up hook or needle right now--be happy you have your grandmother's treasures--

I've never learned to crochet, but I do knit. Good on you, I'm sure your daughter will treasure this. Such patience!

Hi Ruby! The project is finished and given away. I love doilies and they are so fun to make! Enjoy!

It is done! Thank goodness and now I am getting the urge to start a new project,

I wish I could crochet. My mom knows how to but she has no time to teach me. That tablecloth in the picture looks pretty.

That looks nice! I knit afghans for wedding presents. Hope it turned out like you wanted it!

That was so sweet of you doing that for the wedding.

There are online writers that are decidedly into crochet. One was a sergeant in the military (a woman). I haven't heard from her in quite some time. She wrote at Yahoo! Network Contributors.
