Vintage 'upcycling'

They say there is nothing new under the sun: certainly it often seems that way with human behaviour. Currently ‘upcycling’ is the trendy thing but obviously that isn’t new either. Back in the days when fabric shopping bags were not just a conscious choice by those wishing to appear environmentally friendly but were the only option other than a basket, this shopping bag was ‘upcycled’ from a clean hessian sack, probably by my mother when she was young in the 1930s or 40s. That is a very nice looking bag and professional looking in it's construction.

Well done. I wonder if there'd be a market for this where I am. Maybe in the future.

Upcycling? Not sure I've heard that term in use yet in the US. But my late mother always told me to keep my clothes and try to maintain my weight because the fashions always came back around. When I was in high school back in the 70s, my friends were wearing their moms dresses. They called the look "nostalgia". emoticon

Some will upcycle, recycle, redo...I like to do that with jewelry. In last post on creativity, I have share some links to some things I've made.
