Give Caesar what is Caesar's and God what is God's...

I have grown tired of hearing about presidential candidates being electable or not depending on their religious affiliations or lack thereof.

Religion is a personal relationship between man and his God. It has nothing to do with the public arena, be it Government, at all levels or public learning institutions. I want to clarify my stance by saying that I am a Christian(Catholic, by denomination). Let me begin by saying that we are all sinners. Further more, there is not one religion on this Earth that has not been tainted by the depraved behavior of one of its Clerics and/or Leaders. We are all tempted and it is much easier to give in to the baser instinct than to follow the "high road".

Having said all that, my next offering is a question. What makes one polititian more electable because of his self-righteous extolling of the virtue of using religion as a guide to make the right decisions on behalf of his constituents. It has been proven, time and again, that even an agnostic or an atheist is capable of honest and forthright behavior. One does not need to belong to a church to do the right thing; one only has to follow one's conscience. Believe it or not, we were all born with the inherent knowledge of right and wrong.

What I want to hear from polititians is how they plan to go about bringing back the America that was known the world over as being proud, strong, honest, solvent and a just arbiter in the conflicts that have plagued the World for the last two hundred and(almost) fifty years since it's founding.

So, Mr Presidential Candidate, do us all a favor. At the next press conference, convention and public speech event, check your "god" at the door and, please, let us know, using plain and simple language(for us, folks who are not so well learned), if you are the one who will, finally, represent the very people whose votes are the ever elusive key to the so sought after Oval Office.

Respectfully,

We The People.

They just have to prove that they can stop US from getting deeper and deeper into debt.
