Whale Watching in Merimbula NSW

In case you are wondering? Yes I do photograph other things beside birds :)

Just for a change from birds I thought that I might 'tease' you with some of my photographs from Oliversmum and my Whale watching expidetion?

The trip started at Merimbula on the South coast of New South Wales.

After studying the different options I settled on a trip with the Whale watching boat called True Blue.

The entry to the Ocean is so rough that Life Jackets must be worn until the boat passes from the Dock and across the bar to access the Ocean!

Unfortunately the day we went out was a pretty rough day and the Captain was close to 'cancelling' the trip not because it was too dangerous for the boat but more for the comfort of the passangers!

He was not far wrong because although we did see a lot of Whales it was very hard to get photographs while you are pitching every which way.

In fact Whale watching from the shore in Merimbula is also very productive and Oliversmum and I saw quite a few Whales from what is called Long Point. Of the two whale images I have put up here, one is from the True Blue and the other is from shore, can you pick which is which? How many of my friends here have been Whale Watching and if not have you ever wanted to go ?

That photo of the whale is a great shot. You've got a photographic eye.

I've not been yet and I've never incidentally seen a whale either. Maybe one day!

Wow, that is something I would do in a heartbeat. How wonderful to see the whales so close.

Those are great pics. I've never been whale watching, mostly because when I've looked, people what exorbitant amounts of money for it. Sheesh.

Travelling out on the boat is not for the squeamish but I did find it Exciting especially seeing the whales in all their glory!

Alexandoy I love taking photographs of nature and especially things like this that my friends don't normally have an opportunity to see :)

Fleur if you ever get the opportunity grab it with open arms :) However be warned if you are going on a boat be careful what you eat before hand OK lol

Hollyhocks100 if you can you should 'do it' and my photos don't really do these magnificent animals justice ! They are just awesome !!!
We are going back this year God willing :)

G'day msiduri if you ever can get the chance you should go. We are lucky here that we can get up high on the cliffs and watch the Whales swim past ! The boat trip cost was $40 for about 4 hours with a guarantee that if you did not spot any whales you get a free trip !
I'm glad that I went but I could only afford to go once lol

msiduri wrote on April 7, 2015, 11:36 AM

That's not bad at all. The trips around here do not guarantee spotting whales, or at least not the ones that I've checked into. They're about twice the price as well.

I am also a photo lover but not so good like you.

Terrific whale photos. We do have whales here off the Pacific Coast but it would be more exciting to see Ausy whales.

wow, it must be a spectacular view! I wish I had the chance to snap some shots

The photos are really fantastic.I have never gone whale watching.I think I must try to do it.

agvulpes wrote on May 29, 2015, 9:16 AM

I'm sure that you would love the excitement of going out in the boat and seeing the whales breaching out of the water ! You may need sea-sick pills though :)

agvulpes wrote on May 29, 2015, 9:17 AM

I feel that everyone should try whale watching at least once! and I'm sure if you do you will be hooked :)

I have never been but I do want to go. I am not much of a boat person though. I think I would go if given the chance but I would wear a life vest the entire time.

agvulpes wrote on July 19, 2015, 10:00 AM

You said it! When the boat leaves shore it has to cross a sand bar and everyone has to wear a life jacket until open waters are reached!
The last trip was so rough that many of the passengers left the life jackets on all of the time , me included! :)

I have a deep respect for water. My daddy use to go out deep sea fishing often and I don't know how he stood it. There was always more tales about who got sick instead of who caught the biggest/most fish.

agvulpes wrote on July 22, 2015, 7:43 AM

LOL I can so relate to that ! I learned very early on in my sea-faring life to be very careful what I ate before going out!
The big secret is to keep your head up and keep looking at the horizon! :)
