Easter Treats
Looking through my personal archives of things I have written in the past, I came across a folder with some poetry. One of the forms of poetry that I seem to be drawn to writing is acrostic poems.
This form uses the letters of a word to begin each line of the poem. Typically, each line must related to the word. I often use a bit of poetic license with that "rule."
Sometimes, I use the acrostic to deliver a hidden message. Other times, I use the form to focus my writing, or "force" myself to not go off on other tangents.
I found one poem (written in 2010, and previously published at Yahoo! Contributor Network) that I though would be appropriate, considering this is Easter weekend.
We all seem to have our favorite things about every holiday. You will soon figure out one of my indulgences.
* * * * * * * * * *
J elly candies in all colors,
E veryone has a favorite.
L ittle morsels, tempting flavors
L eave you wanting more-of-it.
Y et…
B lack in color, licorice taste
E xcite only just a few of us.
A dream would be to find a case,
N othing but black is beauteous!
* * * * * * * * * *

I wonder how many poems are hiding out in your archival. You might as well publish all of them.

I am absolutely useless at writing any form of poetry. I'm not a poet and I know it!

Acrostic poems are a favourite of mine as well...but normally don't make the character count....good job with this..

Any time I have a poem that might not make it....I like to tell the story of it, or something, as I did here with "acrostic" definition and why I like it. Thanks for the kudos.
